God used people like Elizabeth and Mary to do great things, essentially bringing Jesus into the world to save the world, because they were willing to be used by God no matter what He asked. We need to be obedient to God when He calls us to do something and let Him use us as He pleases to reach others.

People are looking to us for answers because they see the stability that we have from Jesus. When we make Him the center of our lives, our families, and our homes, nothing can shake us. We need to share the hope of Christ with others who may not even know that it’s Him that they need.

The Christmas story is about Jesus giving Himself for us, coming to earth as a baby to grow up and die for our sins. He tells us that He wants us to love Him with our whole selves, holding nothing back. When we give Him all of us, He can use that to change the world around us.

Family issues seem to often come up around the time of the holidays. Instead of growing more bitter towards one another, God calls us to love each other and to make things right. While we can’t control others, we can take responsibility for ourselves and do what we can to make peace.

God loved us enough, even in our sinful state, to make the greatest sacrifice of all. God does not want anyone to be condemned to hell, but when we choose to not receive the greatest gift that He offers us, which is salvation through Christ alone, we do not get to experience the life changing, healing love that He provides.

Just as the shepherds and wisemen chose to worship Jesus when He was born on earth, we are given the opportunity to lay our lives down in worship to Him. Whether we choose to worship Him or not, in the end we won’t have a choice. It’s better that we choose now to worship Him so that we can spend eternity singing His praises.

Just as the Israelites in Exodus needed the blood of a spotless lamb to save themselves from physical death, we need the blood of God’s Lamb, Jesus, to save us from spiritual death. When we understand that there is nothing else that can save us but His blood, then we can share this news with others.

Just like God used Mary to bring Jesus into the world as part of His plan to save the world, He can use you and me if we make ourselves obedient to Him. There’s nothing more special about anyone as to why God chooses to use them, He just looks for willing people who put His will ahead of their own and uses them to change the world.

As the Creator of the whole universe who holds it in the span of His hand, God is in control of all things, even when it doesn’t feel like it. He gave His Son to die for us, showing in the biggest way possible that He loves us. We can trust Him when we don’t see how things will work out, and when we trust Him the weight of the burdens we’re carrying lifts and He carries us through.

The gift of salvation through Jesus Christ is offered to everyone, but we must choose to receive it. If we accept this gift, we get to spend the rest of our lives unwrapping all we are given in Him.

The Bible tells us that once we become Christians and are born again into God’s family, there is nothing that we can do or that can be done to us to change that. No matter how far we may get from God, He will always draw us back to Himself, and sometimes He wants to use us to draw others back as well.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
