Tour of Duty

We are not here on earth merely to get saved and be pulled into Heaven, but rather we have a mission. God has called us to spread His truth with all people, that He loves each person and desires for them to be saved. May we honor Him by obeying His command and do all that we can to help rescue more.

Scripture gives us hope in the promise that we, as believers, will be in a new heaven and new earth with God someday. Anyone who does not have this hope can turn to God and become a new creation where the past stays in the past and He gives a new life and hope to cling to.

Everyone makes resolutions when a new year rolls around, but a resolution is only a good intention unless there is action that follows it up. Rather than merely making good intentions for change, we must ask God to help us see specific areas that He’d like us to work on and obey His leading for real revolution in our lives.

While the end of the world or even just our lives is inevitable, we do not have to live troubled or in fear. We can be ready by having a right relationship with Jesus Christ, be watchful for His second coming, and wait with anticipation to see our Savior face to face.

The Bible expresses the importance of gathering together as the family of God to encourage each other, help those who are hurting, and keep each other accountable. One of the best contributions you can make to the Christian community is simply to show up consistently and be an active part.

There are various reasons that we may need a time out from the difficulties of life and ministry, but God never gives us permission to quit altogether. God has a purpose and plan for our lives and while we are still living on earth we need to stay active in fulfilling that plan, making a difference in others and sharing the Gospel until He calls us Home.

We have the option of chasing after God and His calling for us, or chasing after the temporary pleasures of the world. It is too easy to get distracted and lose focus on why God has us here but we must remember that this is our temporary home, and we need to fulfill our purpose while we’re here until He calls us to our true home with Him forever.

God’s plan was perfectly in place for Jesus to come so that the world could be saved from sin. Mary and Joseph walked in obedience to raise Jesus and fulfill God’s plan, and we must walk in response to this great Savior with obedience and surrender.

Before creation, God knew that there would need to be a plan for salvation and He incorporated that plan in every aspect of His handiwork. Since Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we are now offered the gift of salvation entirely free. We must lay aside our attempts at payment and simply receive this gift.

When God made man and woman and placed them in the garden, He gave them one command that they did not obey which resulted in the need for a sacrifice to cover their sin. Jesus came in the flesh, died and was raised back to life in order so that His sacrifice would cover all of our sin.

The Bible is full of prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, statistically proving that He really is the Messiah. Instead of arguing the facts and choosing to not believe what is clearly written, we need to have faith in Scripture, believe and spread the Gospel message with others.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
