In the Old Testament we are told that there was a Temple that God resided in so that when the people needed to offer sacrifices and repent they would go to Him in the Temple.  Since Christ’s final sacrifice for us, God lives inside of us and we are his house.  Often times we neglect cleaning house for Him because it can get very messy.  We may try to make our “house” look clean from the outside by doing all the right things, but when it comes down to it the inside is a pigsty.  What we need to do is work on cleaning the house from the inside out so that the things that truly matter, that which is in our heart where Jesus is, can be made clean forever.

There are examples in Scripture and in other history of people who prove their willingness to die for the sake of Christ.  Those people, also known as martyrs, set an example for us for how we are supposed to live our lives.  We may not be chosen to die a physical death for Christ’s sake, but everyday we are called to die to ourselves, take up our cross and live for Him.  We must ask ourselves if we’re really willing to take a stand for Christ no matter the cost.  If the answer is yes, no price we must pay can compare to the victory we celebrate in Heaven.

Jesus was very clear – unless we become like children we will not see the Kingdom of God. The innocence and dependence that a child has on a parent is exactly how we must live our lives toward God. And by this example, we teach our kids how to trust in all things. And maybe, just maybe, they won’t reject church or God but even come to rely on Him because of the very thing they saw in us will show them that they can also trust in Christ.

It is very easy to look at others whose sin seems to be more obvious and in the spotlight, such as homosexuality.  What we fail to realize is that God detests things like a proud look, a mind that devises evil plans, and a lying tongue just as much.  When it comes to sin, the consequences may look different for different sins, but there is no degree measurement in God’s eyes for which is worse.  Sin is sin, and until we realize that, we cannot see ourselves for who we really are – a sinner in need of grace – and we cannot see others as they are either – just like us, one whom God loves and longs for

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
