Time Out

December 28, 2018

There are various reasons that we may need a time out from the difficulties of life and ministry, but God never gives us permission to quit altogether. God has a purpose and plan for our lives and while we are still living on earth we need to stay active in fulfilling that plan, making a difference in others and sharing the Gospel until He calls us Home.

We have the option of chasing after God and His calling for us, or chasing after the temporary pleasures of the world. It is too easy to get distracted and lose focus on why God has us here but we must remember that this is our temporary home, and we need to fulfill our purpose while we’re here until He calls us to our true home with Him forever.

God’s plan was perfectly in place for Jesus to come so that the world could be saved from sin. Mary and Joseph walked in obedience to raise Jesus and fulfill God’s plan, and we must walk in response to this great Savior with obedience and surrender.

Before creation, God knew that there would need to be a plan for salvation and He incorporated that plan in every aspect of His handiwork. Since Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we are now offered the gift of salvation entirely free. We must lay aside our attempts at payment and simply receive this gift.

When God made man and woman and placed them in the garden, He gave them one command that they did not obey which resulted in the need for a sacrifice to cover their sin. Jesus came in the flesh, died and was raised back to life in order so that His sacrifice would cover all of our sin.

The Bible is full of prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, statistically proving that He really is the Messiah. Instead of arguing the facts and choosing to not believe what is clearly written, we need to have faith in Scripture, believe and spread the Gospel message with others.

It is easy, almost natural, to be owned by our stuff. Yet Jesus says that we are to care for the poor, which sometimes means we must sell something we have in order to do that. It may not be appealing, but as Christians we should ask God what He wants us to sell so that we may help someone in need who may potentially become a brother or sister in Christ.

God has given each and every person amazing gifts and talents, yet they are all best used when they glorify Him. The greatest gift He gave is His own Son to be sacrificed so that we can be saved. All we have to do is receive His gift for eternal life.

Every detail about Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection was fulfilling of every prophecy ever made about this Messiah. At some point, we have to come to a place of choosing to believe in Him or not because we will all face His throne one day and answer for the choice we make.

We have to have a mindset of hospitality, welcoming any and all in so that they may hear the Gospel. Jesus demonstrated His love for all strangers by dying for every single one without prejudice. When we become part of His family, we must open our arms, homes and churches to welcome in more strangers who may one day become family.

Many times there are people who get saved by accepting salvation offered by Jesus through the cross, but they continue living their lives in their own power and trying to fix their own sin. God empowers us through His Spirit to overcome sin if we would just submit our lives to Him every day.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
