The Gap

February 26, 2019

Because of Christ and His sacrifice we are made righteous and are able to stand in the gap for someone as a connection between them and God. The way we do this is through prayer, protecting them through prayer from evil. There are many people in our lives who need to know God and who are hurting without Him and so rather than put it off on someone else we need to be the ones standing in the gap for them.

It’s easy to get impatient when God takes time to answer our prayers. What we must realize is that there are other spiritual things going on and it can take time for angels to come to our aid because of the battle they face. The Bible tells us to keep asking God no matter how long it takes because if we’re asking for things He has put on our heart then He will answer in His time.

In the Old Testament we see that the Israelites had turned from God to find satisfaction in other things and that did not work out well for them. We often do that in our own lives, building our own cisterns to hold water that falls through the cracks and holes while God, the fountain of life, is waiting for us all along.

There are plenty of people with wounds, whether physical, emotional or spiritual and they need someone to take compassion on them and help clean them up no matter how messy the process. Jesus encourages us to lay any prejudice aside, roll up our sleeves and jump in His work as He uses us to reach the broken and hurting in the world.

Everyone encounters difficulties in their life that can make them want to scream. The Bible tells us to change our perspective and see all our troubles as joy because God promises to use all things for His good. We can look back not only in our own lives but also the stories of the Bible and see that God is always faithful, and even in difficult times we can have joy because of His faithfulness.

God allows us to be in situations where we have the decision to stand up for Him or to back down. When we take a stand, we need to be willing to ask for help from other believers because there is strength in numbers. We must also stand behind another believer who takes a stand and support them.

Just like God used the worst possible things in Joseph’s life to turn around and save a whole nation, He can take anything in our lives and bring good out of it. We must also be sensitive to other believers and their convictions, understanding that what God has given us permission for must always be done in faith and obedience to Him.

Often times we may feel bound by sin or we may see others who are struggling and it is in fasting and prayer that we can truly ask and see God’s work in our lives and the lives of others. It is not a secret formula that gets us answers when we want it, but we may as well fast and pray when there is something burdening our heart because that is what God calls us to do.

There are many people who are addicted to something, especially something that has a negative effect on their life. The only way to truly be freed from that addiction is to not only get sober but to get clean. Jesus is the only one who can truly clean a person’s life up, and he waits patiently asking, “Do you want to be made well?”

There are times we find ourselves wrecked because of our own choices or just because we have encountered difficulties in the midst of faithfulness. No matter how we ended up in these trials, trusting God through them instead of complaining can be the greatest way of showing the hope that we have and draw others’ attention to the Lord.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
