Thanks A Lot God

November 21, 2018

When we thank God for things in our lives that are hard, we show that our trust is in Him to bring good out of our difficulties. It is not easy to give a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, but in doing so we focus our hearts on God and His plans that we can’t see instead of on what trial we are walking through in the moment.

The story of Jesus healing ten lepers and only having one of them come back to thank Him is a lot more common of a story than it should be. Most of us ask God for stuff but never go back to thank Him for anything. The Bible says that no matter what our circumstances, even in difficult times, we should always be thanking God in all things.

God is sovereign and in control of all things, allowing circumstances to come our way that may challenge us. When we find ourselves in difficult situations, we must respond by trusting that God is still in control and His plans are best.

Jesus said that wide is the road that leads to destruction and many follow it, but few find the straight and narrow path that leads to eternal life. The only way we will find that path is by following God’s direction in our lives, and the first place to find direction is from the Bible.

God has a perfect plan for our lives and the lives of each child to be born. Instead of being so focused on making our will happen, we need to slow down and trust that God knows what He’s doing and can intervene in any situation.

It is common for especially men to go through a midlife crisis where they get bored with what they have in their lives and seek after more pleasurable things. God wants us to stay focused on Him and not be distracted by the things of the world because He is the only one who can provide true pleasure and satisfaction.

Menopause is a physical result of sin in Eden, and every woman faces it at a certain age. When that time comes, it can be difficult for a husband to deal with these changes, but God can provide the patience it takes to stick with it in the marriage.

In the Christian life we often look for “mountain top” experiences at church on Sundays or during some religious event. In reality, we’ve all had a “mountain top” experience if we’ve met Jesus on the cross, and we can stay in that high as long as we are staying connected to Him and letting His Spirit live in us and through us.

If we can’t control the words that we speak, we can’t control anything else about ourselves. The Bible tells us that our mouths clearly depict who we truly are. As representatives of God to others, we must have a tamed tongue and speak only words of truth in love.

God wants to use us as His hands and feet in the world to make a difference and do good in His name. Doing good things on our own is not the point but rather we must step out in faith and do good where God leads for His glory.

God has promised to forget our sin, not ever hold it against us, when we confess it to Him and receive the forgiveness offered through Christ’s death. Instead of wearing the guilt of our past, we need to shed it, move on, and not let our sin define us any longer.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
