God offers us an abundant life through Jesus Christ.  The problem is that we often choose to live on the side of “lush” that inevitably brings destruction rather than following in the way that God has intended for us to go.  When we realize that we are tempted, we must be vulnerable with other brothers and sisters in Christ, asking them to help us through the temptation, in order so that we may experience the lush life that God has for us.

Whether they believe it or not, many people are going to hell.  By avoiding making a decision, or by not choosing heaven, they are making an inevitable choice.  Many people barrel down the wide highway to hell, while few find the narrow path that leads to eternal life.  The only way to get your name in the Book of Life and get into heaven is to believe in the great truths that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again.

The Grateful Living

The world looks for anything and everything to get rid of the pain they feel in the day-to-day struggles of life: alcohol, drugs, sex, you name it. But the thing is that these things are only temporary. All it causes is a spiraling lifestyle where eventually nothing is strong enough to do away with the pain. But as believers, we have the remedy that will not only rid us of the pain but get us on a spiritual permanent high. The consequences of our actions don’t go away, but the joy we can experience can supercede the heartache.

The selfish side of us seems to want to cry out when we perceive something to not be fair to us and all that we have personally done. To see someone who has a lot and we don’t have much, or someone else gets the promotion when we think we should have, or even to see someone else being blessed when we’re struggling. The point is this – we are not God! We need to be grateful for what he has done for us, and that should be enough. Trust in him and be thankful that he has even called us unto his own.

It’s amazing how we take so much for granted and go along in our everyday lives and not say thank you for each and every thing that we have been given. Whether it’s the things we have, the people around us, our spouse, our kids, our family, our job, or even the many good things and examples of others, we need to be constantly thankful for everything. Change it up and spend intentional time today to say thank you!

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
