The Bible instructs us that once we are saved through Jesus Christ that our next step is to be baptized. When it comes to the spiritual life, baptism is the “A” in the ABC’s; it is the first act of obedience before anything else falls into place.

There are things in life that we want to hold on to and not surrender it to God. He calls us to release our hold on those things and trust Him to provide everything we need. The greatest need that we all have is for the debt of sin to be paid and God paid that already through Jesus Christ.

It is better to live in obedience to God, even if it involves suffering, than to live for ourselves and our own pleasures which will inevitably bring more suffering and consequences. God rewards our obedience to Him with a fullness of joy that we can find nowhere else.

While God works in miraculous ways that sometimes leave us shook, we tend to overlook the greatest miracle that He has performed in our own lives by bringing us from spiritual death to life. The Bible tells us very clearly that there will come a day when we will bow before Him, and because of Jesus’ death on the cross our choosing to bow to Him before it’s too late allows for us to experience eternal life with Him forever.

The Bible describes God’s Church as the Body of Christ where Christ is the head. Because we are one body we must remain connected to one another so that God can work through us to reach the world.

While prayer should be a regular part of our lives in seeking the Lord and His mighty power, He also calls us at times to fast in order to see real miraculous change. If we keep hitting a wall when it comes to seeking answers or change, we should seek the Lord through fasting and watch Him mightily work.

God requires first time obedience. When He tells you to do something and you disobey, there will be consequences. If you are living in disobedience and not experiencing consequences, you should question if you are part of His family because God disciplines His children.

All sorts of religions have traditions, some even that falsely promise to get you into heaven. Catholicism has many traditions that add onto Scripture, but the truth is none of these traditions can save you. The only way to be saved is to have faith in Jesus Christ, allowing Him to come live in you and through you.

While we can have a lot of stored information in our brains, it is still important that we be quiet and listen so that we can learn wisdom from others. God knows every detail about us and wants us to not just know things about Him but to know Him in an intimate way through deep relationship.

There is a difference between being at peace with God when we become saved and having peace from God. When we live a life of obedience to Him and forgiveness towards others we can experience that peace that comes only from Him.

There are times in our lives when we feel as though God is silent and has forsaken us, but the fact is that He forsook Jesus on the cross so that we could be brought into His family and He has promised to never forsake us. When we approach Him with questions, we must be seeking relationship with Him and wait however long it takes for Him to answer instead of walk away disappointed that we didn’t get what we wanted.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
