Really?

August 26, 2019

God wants to use us to do great things for His Kingdom, but we too often question His ability to fulfill His promises. Rather than asking if He can really do what it is He’s telling us He wants to do, we need to step out in obedience and allow Him to get all the glory for the amazing work He does through us.

Often people think that they can hide certain sins, but God sees it all for He has already searched us. God can begin to work in our lives when we ask Him to search us and He reveals to us our struggles. It is better to go through a souloscopy than to struggle with various symptoms of things that God can easily fix while ignoring the problem all together.

We have become desensitized to abortion and the death toll that takes place because of the acceptance of it in our culture. While we can care for the earth, our priority needs to be saving people, body and soul.

The Bible tells the story of a man who invited many people to a party, but when they did not come he had his servant bring the poor, blind and lame people. God invites everyone to His party in Heaven and we must allow Him to use us to hand out that invitation even to people we may not like.

Instead of continuing to practice traditional religious things that we’ve done our whole lives, we need to sift through them and realize what comes from Scripture and what doesn’t. In order to grow in our relationship with God, we must be willing to let go of some things so that He can continue His work in us and through us.

Sometimes the things that have happened to us or that we have done make us believe that we cannot have joy in this life. The truth is that because of Jesus, we are offered a life of joy in Him that lasts not only in this life but for eternity; the only thing holding us back from that life is sin.

There is a day coming when we will see Jesus face to face and show how our lives were spent. We have one life to either build with wood and straw to be burned up in the end, or we can build our lives with eternity in mind and present to Jesus a life with lasting reward that was lived for Him.

Jesus took on Himself all the sin of man and died on the cross as the adequate sacrifice to God. Now, because of Him, we can be made clean and righteous in God’s eyes through Christ. He offers this salvation to everyone but we must respond and receive this free gift.

Jesus told His disciples to follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. If you follow Christ and He is in you, you will be witnessing to others because you won’t be able to keep the work God is doing in your life a secret.

Just like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego faced the consequence of being thrown in a fire to kill them for now bowing down to the king of Babylon, they trusted God just as we should that He would deliver them. Rather than giving up on God and embracing what the world offers, we must trust that He always has a plan to deliver us at one point or another and that facing the fire is always worth it for His sake.

Choosing to either follow Christ or reject Him is the biggest choice that a person can make because that choice determines where they will be after their life on earth. Everybody has the same destiny in that everyone will eventually die, but the only way to have life after death is by choosing to give your life to Christ and follow Him.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
