Pray Attention

July 23, 2013

Prayer does not have to be an eloquent speech but rather a simple conversation with God. The Bible tells us to find a quiet place alone to talk to Him. Prayer helps build relationship with God and allows for the opportunity for us to see God answer our prayers.

There are many women who have lost a child, either by their own sin of choosing to give up that life or by other causes. Though it should not be the reasoning for giving your life to Christ so as to see a child who has passed from this world to be with God, there is hope for those mothers who follow Christ that they will once again be reunited with their children who have gone to be with the Lord.

God may be speaking to you and telling you to do something but you’re not hearing it because you’re looking for an extravagant manifestation of His voice. Listen for His soft whisper and obey what He is telling you to do.

Your identity should not be found in yourself but rather in Christ. When you choose to follow Him you accept the call to die daily to yourself and live as He tells you to live. Before you try to figure out who you are, accept and understand whose you are and let Him live in and through you.

It is easy to be fearful of the future because you don’t always know what to expect. God knows the future and nothing takes Him by surprise. No matter what happens, He is always in control and we must trust Him.

The Bible tells us that when we abide in God, He not only lives in us but also lives through us producing Spiritual fruit. We can do nothing to bring Him glory apart from Him. We must remain in Him so that He can prune us to produce more fruit.

Christians are called to be united together as one Body. When everyone works together so much more is accomplished than if everyone worked alone. The devil will do his best to keep the Body from accomplishing God’s work but when there is unity not even He can stop what is being accomplished.

The Bible tells about a story in Nehemiah where God’s people came together to rebuild a city, astonishing everyone that it was completed in 52 days. God wants His Church to work together so that the works that are accomplished point directly to Him and no one is alone in the process.

There can be a variety of things that remind us of mistakes we have made in our past, but the fact is that God has forgotten and remembers our sin no more when we are washed in the blood of Christ. Rather than allowing these times that the devil reminds us of our mistakes to bring us down, we should instead sing praises to God and fight back with Scripture, moving forward from the past and embracing the future God has for us.

We can try to make anything in life happen whether it be marrying a certain person or taking a certain job. The truth is that if it is not God’s will for our life then it will turn out to be a huge mess. The only way to know God’s will is by spending time with Him through prayer and Scripture and letting Him lead you.

There is a common temptation for anyone to be lazy and in turn not developing the skills that they have.  Rather than giving into this temptation, Christians are called to do everything for the glory of God.  That means that God is your boss and you are to do everything as if doing it for Him.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
