Orphan Age

January 10, 2020

In this day and age we have so many churches, also known as orphanages for new believers, but not enough disciples making disciples. If we are really followers of Christ then we will put away our fears and obey His calling to make disciples.

Many people have a fear of death but if we are Christians we don’t need to fear because we can know that we will be in Heaven for eternity. Rather than wasting our time in fear or ignoring other peoples’ fate, we must tell them about Christ so that they can live in the same hope.

The Old Testament Law, all the rules that we could follow, comes with a curse of death because if we break one we break them all, and it is impossible to follow them all. Christ’s death changed everything and it is only by faith in Him that we can be saved from the fate of deserving death up a tree.

When we try our hardest to act godly, the work will eventually wear us down and our flesh will reveal itself in the ugliness that it naturally carries in sin.  When we yield ourselves to Jesus, His work in our lives manifests itself in the fruit of the Spirit that others will notice and wonder what reason we have for the change that has taken place in our lives.

Tragedy happens in this world and the reason why boils down to the sin issue in humanity. Jesus took on all sin when He died, allowing for everyone to be saved.

We can all feel let down at certain times in our lives by others, by God, or even by ourselves. No matter what our circumstances may be, God promises comfort and that He will provide for all we need to do the work He has called us to do until we go home to Him.

There are different instances where God is out of sight yet in every one we are called to trust Him. He often brings us to places where our faith is stretched because we are not sure how He is going to provide for our needs, but He always provides all that we need when we seek Him first above all things.

As one year comes to a close and another begins, it is good to reflect on how you used your time over the past year to bring honor and glory to God. The Bible tells us to do all things for Him, so as we move forward into a new year may we not waste the time that He has given us.

At the beginning of a year there is a sense of new beginnings to make things different and better in our lives. Our finances are one thing the Bible maps out to show us where we need to be responsible. When we give our first fruits to God by placing our treasure in our church home, it also indicates that we are committed to belonging to a body of believers like He has called us to. Above anything else, the only thing that will keep us on track in all categories of responsibilities is spending time every morning talking with God.

It’s easy to get distracted by all the things around us so that we cannot hear God’s voice. When we stop to listen and He tells us what to do, we need to respond in immediate obedience. Listening only makes a difference when it is followed by action.

People will be attracted to the merry heart they see in us when they see us praise God in all circumstances. The Bible tells us to not complain about anything but rather to cheer loudly for God and the work that He’s done, and in doing so we maintain joy.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
