New Ear’s Eve

December 31, 2019

It’s easy to get distracted by all the things around us so that we cannot hear God’s voice. When we stop to listen and He tells us what to do, we need to respond in immediate obedience. Listening only makes a difference when it is followed by action.

People will be attracted to the merry heart they see in us when they see us praise God in all circumstances. The Bible tells us to not complain about anything but rather to cheer loudly for God and the work that He’s done, and in doing so we maintain joy.

If we are not connected in a church where people know who we are, we are more likely to wander away from God. Find a church, get connected and help herd everyone to stay together, also finding those that are lost and bringing them back to the fold.

The Bible addresses those who are fools many times. It specifically instructs us to not do the things they do but instead to live wisely. It is not worth anything to know what the Bible says unless we live out what we know. We must embrace every day, living wisely, because we could be gone tomorrow.

Just as there is a mess after the birth of a new baby, there is a mess in the life of a Christian after they are born again. To grow in the Christian life means to confess our sins. When we do sin, Jesus Christ is our highest-powered attorney who bails us out every time.

The point of the Christmas celebration is not only about Jesus, the Messiah, being born but rather the blood He shed on our behalf as the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God. We cannot be saved without this blood covering our lives, and God offers us this gift of salvation wrapped up in His Son for us to only reach out and receive.

Though promised throughout the Old Testament that a Messiah would come, it didn’t happen until after 400 years of silence from the prophets. Just as the Israelites experienced great darkness before the light of the world came, we all go through very dark times in our lives. The truth that Jesus has come and can bring light to our lives can help us get through the darkest times.

Jesus came to earth in a humble manner so that no one can say He was more privileged than them. Many of us put up a “No Vacancy” sign on their heart and do not let Him in, but when we finally turn off the “No” we realize that Jesus can change our heart of stone to that of flesh and it can change our lives.

When God tells us something, whether directly or verified by others, we need to obey immediately no matter what it is He’s telling us to do. The only safe place to truly be is exactly where He has called us.

God gave up His only Son so that we may be offered the gift of eternal life completely for free. When we receive that from Him, the Bible instructs us to offer ourselves, our whole lives, to God and see what amazing things He can do with us.

There are so many different elements of the Gospel story that would have to be ignored because of how much proves that Christ truly was the anointed Son of God who died to take away the sins of the world. It is not bad to question things, but at some point we have to believe what the Bible says or else claim that the whole thing is a hoax.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
