Out of the Box

The inevitable truth is that all of us are going to die, but not all of us are sure of what happens to us after death.  Like a late member of the church, Larry, we can be certain of our salvation and that we will be in heaven because of Christ’s sacrifice to take on the payment of our sins in order to offer us forgiveness and everlasting life.  None of us knows when our appointed time has come to die, but that is all the more reason to utilize our time on earth to build a relationship with our Creator God and to tell others about Him.  As the sand falls in our hourglass of a lifetime, our death wish should be to be with Jesus forever in heaven, as well as wishing that same fate for all those we know.

This phrase is technically used when you suddenly realize that your plan is not important to you and you will do something else.  It’s moments like this that can bring some drastic, even life-changing consequences.  When we become weak and vulnerable to the devil, he uses those moments to trick us into changing our course by lying and making it seem like whatever we were holding onto is not all that important.  Fortunately, God’s grace and mercy covers those moments of failure, but we must always remember to stay on track no matter what the devil tells us and never fall into the careless attitude and say, “What the hell?”

There are many gods that man has created, but the God of the Bible is the only true God.  His power, holiness, righteousness and more are described in the words of Scripture.  If we truly utilized all the faith that He has gracefully given to us, our lives would look very different.  If we saw God for who He truly is, or even for just how He is rightly described as in the Bible, we would find ourselves not worrying at all about our circumstances that are in His control but moreover yielding our will to His.  There are many manmade gods to choose from, but as followers of Christ we choose to serve the one and only Good God Almighty.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived out alone.  When you become a follower of Christ, you become part of the family of God.  Just like a normal family would have all the members there for a family dinner, it is essential for the Christian to take part in the “family” gatherings of the Church.  No matter what the family you grew up in was like, the family of God is a safe place that all are welcomed in by the blood of Christ.  While it is so important for the family of God to meet together, it is also important that all the members love each other and continue to make it be a safe place for everyone to come just as they are.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
