We can all strive to look normal or attractive to other people, but regardless of the outward appearance we can be completely empty on the inside without Christ. God made us in His own image, and while we can care for our physical health our focus needs to be on allowing Him to work in us and through us.

Choosing to not give into sin because of moral pride sets us up for failure because we can never resist temptation completely on our own. Realizing the obedient lifestyle that God has designed for us and the purpose He has for us allows us to face temptation grounded on a foundation of Scripture.

There are many gods that man has created, but the God of the Bible is the only true God. If we truly utilized all the faith that He has gracefully given to us, our lives would look very different. If we saw God for who He truly is, we would find ourselves not worrying at all about our circumstances that are in His control and yield our will to His.

There is a very real spiritual world that is continually at war as we go about our daily lives. God has given us the power of His Spirit and the weapon of Scripture to help equip us with armor for protection and fight back.

The only reason we should fear anything is if we do not have God living in us and fighting for us. The Bible tells us that God is for us, not against us, and He is bigger and stronger than anything the devil could throw at us and therefore we have no reason to fear.

We need to find someone to follow who would be willing to be a leader to us while at the same time we are leading someone else. This is when a legacy of life is left is when you lead someone in such a way to equip them to lead others.

Just as it is necessary to continually wash our clothes and our bodies because of how dirty we get, it is necessary to wash ourselves spiritually through the Word on a daily basis. It is through Christ’s blood that we can be completely washed white as snow, but it is through the necessary daily cleaning that we can remain clean.

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are essentially admitting that we have nothing to give but He fills us with His life. We can then either hold onto everything He gives us or we can turn around and give back to Him as He leads and watch Him open the floodgates of blessing in our lives.

Just as a fire can go out and turn into a pile of ashes that can be stoked to find embers to relight the fire, our excitement about salvation can be renewed. When we remember God’s blessings for us, big or small, it stokes the fire in our hearts to be thankful for what He’s given and have a faith that connects to our feelings.

Samson lived a life filled with mistakes and he suffered great consequences, yet God was still able to use him for His glory. The Bible tells us to flee from temptation, but for the moments we give in and experience consequences we must remember that God gives us the grace and strength to pick ourselves back up and continue in His work.

The way that God orchestrated the coming together of Ruth and Boaz shows His sovereignty in all situations, but it was also their obedience to Him that ended up fulfilling prophecy down the line. We are faced with decisions daily in which we must seek God’s leading and follow Him in obedience.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
