Mouth

November 12, 2018

If we can’t control the words that we speak, we can’t control anything else about ourselves. The Bible tells us that our mouths clearly depict who we truly are. As representatives of God to others, we must have a tamed tongue and speak only words of truth in love.

God wants to use us as His hands and feet in the world to make a difference and do good in His name. Doing good things on our own is not the point but rather we must step out in faith and do good where God leads for His glory.

God has promised to forget our sin, not ever hold it against us, when we confess it to Him and receive the forgiveness offered through Christ’s death. Instead of wearing the guilt of our past, we need to shed it, move on, and not let our sin define us any longer.

We often miss out on opportunities to serve Jesus because we do not view those who are hungry, thirsty, naked, sick or imprisoned as Jesus Himself. When we allow the Spirit to lead us, He will open our eyes so that we can make the most of those opportunities to serve those considered to be least in society. We are supposed to be active members of His Body, not sleeping and waiting to go to Heaven.

When we look at our lives in perspective to God, our Creator, it helps us see how much more powerful He is over any of our circumstances. Instead of focusing on the frustrations or trials in this life, we can look to God for help and for the promise of eternity in Heaven with Him.

Rather than trying to do and earn everything on our own, we need to trust God that He has great plans for us and He will work to accomplish those plans if we submit. God has a purpose for our lives and it is ultimately filled with the greatest treasure made possible to us by Jesus Christ, but we have to give up our lives and step out in obedience.

While it is easier to be served than to serve, God has called us all to be servants to Him and to each other. Our faith in Jesus should lead to actions of obedience and service if our faith is truly genuine.

We all have things in our lives that we have said won’t happen until pigs fly. The fact is that Jesus said He would never leave us nor forsake us. When God says something, He’s going to follow through with what He says He’s going to do.

Without Christ we are simply losers, but God freely offers us the greatest gift of all because He chose to love us anyway. We must live our lives responding to His love, not looking out for ourselves or building up our own pride but rather glorifying Him in everything we do.

If we ever find ourselves in a place of feeling like we have been separated from God’s love, we need to look at our lives and see if we are truly living in His Spirit or living out of our own flesh. The Bible tells us that there is nothing that we could ever do to make God stop loving us, but we must live out in His love because that’s how He will change us and the world through us.

When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, they brought evil into the makeup of all mankind. God desires that we truly live in the way that He intended us to, but the only way we can do that is repenting of our own sinfulness and living in obedience to Him.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
