Knock-Knock

January 7, 2016

Sometimes we ask for something that we want God to do for us and if what we are asking for is from Him, then we must persevere and continue knocking no matter how long it takes. We must remember that when God shuts a door, it’s not going to open again. Lastly, Jesus stands at the door of our heart knocking and it is essential to let Him in so that He can know us intimately.

The Church, made up of all believers, is the Bride of Christ, and as such we are to submit to Him in whatever He calls us to do. Christ loves His bride, so much so that He died for her, and this love is revealed to us throughout Scripture. So we now have a choice to either go head to head with Him who loves us, or let Him be the head of His Church and submit to His will.

God loves us because of who we are regardless of what we do. When we accept the fact that we are loved, the doing follows and we can then obey Him and love others. Instead of focusing on doing in order to define our being, we need to let our being determine our doing.

A battle cross to mark the place of a death does not mean much to people who did not know that person, but it symbolizes a great loss to those who knew them. Jesus died on a cross to win a battle for us but it only means something if we are in relationship with Him.

Although the Church is filled with messy people, God designed it to work in such a way as a family coming together and caring for one another. When we are adopted into His family, we need to plug into a local church family to live the Christian life united, loving our brothers and sisters.

We must start by believing in God, that He was in the beginning and created all things. Then we can move forward to surrendering our lives to Him, believing that He loves us and cares about every detail, and seeing the changes that take place in our lives.

The world tells us many lies about how we can be in control of ourselves and everything’s going to be okay. The truth is that we are not in control, but we can trust the One who is and who cares enough about us to give us hope in our future.

The world offers nothing that can satisfy us and yet we continue to search for things of this world. Jesus says that He is the Bread of Life and it is only in Him that we can find satisfaction. We must stop filling ourselves with worldly things and fill ourselves with Him so that we may have eternal life.

Not many people have something in their life that they would die for. In a relationship with Jesus Christ He desires a commitment from us that we give our whole lives to Him. The Bible teaches that we are to be a living sacrifice to God, living and doing all things for Him.

We are not supposed to catch and release when it comes to sharing the Gospel. We must follow Jesus and teach others to do the same. Following Jesus requires authenticity because acting it out and faking it is not an option. It’s expensive either way, but it’s worth the price to follow Christ.

The devil knows what bait to use to lure you into temptation and sin. In every temptation there is always an escape if we look for it. Mistakes will be made and there is always forgiveness although that does not relieve us of the consequences. The only person who can show us how to run from temptation and overcome the struggle is Jesus, but we must run to Him first.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
