It Crossed My Mind

There are monuments set up to remember soldiers who gave their lives for a cause during battles fought here on earth and it is good for us to remember them. We also must keep in mind that there is a constant battle going on for our souls and Jesus gave His life to win that battle for us if we choose His side.

When we become Christians, it’s as if we are spiritual babies. As we grow in our spiritual life we reach a point of adolescence where we begin to do things on our own. The more we develop an adolescent rebellious attitude the worse off we are in the Body, but when we continue to grow we can help the Body of Christ be taking responsibility and doing our part in the work together.

We stumble and fall over and over again by falling for the same tricks that the devil has used on us for years. We need to be aware that He is out to get us, and at the same time we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us that guides us so that we don’t get suckered into the same traps.

When Jesus was here on earth He brought some of His disciples to a mountaintop where He unveiled His glory and met with Moses and Elijah to be encouraged for what was coming. That light of Christ that shone through Him is inside those who follow Him and if we allow His light to shine in and through our lives He can use us to bring others to Himself.

Mentorship is key when it comes to being the Church, because without it all we have are a bunch of born again baby orphans with no one to look after them. As believers, at some point God will call us to seek out someone new to the family of God to take under our wing and pour into their life that they may grow and mature to someday be in a position to do the same thing for someone else.

Because of Christ’s death on the cross we now have the opportunity to become joint heirs with Him and call God our Daddy. When we become Christians, He lives inside of us, and when we die here on earth we get to go home to be with Him forever.

The devil’s mission is to steal, kill, and destroy, plotting to keep us from getting out of this world alive. The truth is, there is life after death, eternal life with God forever, but there are so many people that don’t even know about it or think they can have a chance at that life. While we are here, we should be spreading the Word and fighting against the devil’s lies to help get as many people out of this world alive.

The only way that a person can be a truly great leader is if they are already following someone else, most importantly Jesus Christ. We, as Christians are called to be leaders and make disciples, teaching those who are following to do the same. This command of discipleship and leadership must be the focus of the Church, otherwise everything else gets out of focus and does not have much purpose.

The Bible very specifically points out the hypocrites who teach one way to live and live themselves in a completely different way. It’s one thing to do the right actions, but it’s a whole other thing with greatest importance to have a heart relationship with God and follow Him so that out of that comes the fruit of our lives.

The Bible tells us that once we become Christians and are born again into God’s family, there is nothing that we can do or that can be done to us to change that. No matter how far we may get from God, He will always draw us back to Himself, and sometimes He wants to use us to draw others back as well.

We need to start by believing that God is for us and not against us, then trust Him in any difficult situation. When we trust God in seemingly impossible circumstances, we see His incredible glory shine through our lives in a way that points back to His work in and through us.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
