Countless Lives
June 21, 2012
It’s easy to get caught up in the everyday struggles and allow them to take us out.  We often long for things out of the ordinary, yet the Christian life is meant to be lived out on an everyday basis.  The way this works is that God fills us up with Himself so that we can overflow and minister to others.  There will be times of trials and struggles, when life is pressing hard on us, but the hope is that God has promised that we will never be crushed.  He sustains us everyday so that we can continue to do His work while we are here on earth.

Dads are known for saying many common phrases, but few dads are known to follow through with what they say and to set an example that coincides with their words.  The power that a dad has to influence his kids cannot be matched by anyone else.  The kind of dad that sets an example for his children is a dad that models after our Heavenly Father.  These kinds of dads know that it is necessary to continually direct their kids to the Lord because only God is perfect.  As a dad, it is good to admit to your kids when you’re wrong rather than hold onto your pride.  Do not merely tell your kids what to do, but make sure to model for them a good example so that they may look at you with respect rather than as a hypocrite.

Many of us grow up believing that we should act like Jesus, putting on a good face for any particular company.  The truth is that acting like Jesus is very different than what the Bible teaches.  The Bible teaches us that when we become a believer, Jesus lives inside of us.  We can allow Him to continue to work in our lives so that someday we can be perfect just as our Heavenly Father is perfect.  In order to imitate God like Scripture teaches, we need to know God.  The more we know God in intimate relationship with Him, the more we become just like our Father.

Like Moses in the Old Testament when God told him to go back to Egypt, many of us are fearful of certain things. The good news is that God has equipped us with the power to fight against that spirit of fear with love and a sound mind. The way that we can eliminate fear from our lives is by loving God, trusting Him, and loving others. God has promised that He will always take care of us, so there is nothing in this world that we should have any reason to fear. Rather than allowing the devil to lock us down in fearful dread, we should instead allow God’s love to unlock us from that bondage.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
