I’m Sorry

December 8, 2020

There’s a difference between saying sorry and meaning it only for a short time and being truly repentant for our actions. God always offers grace, mercy and forgiveness, but we need to not take it lightly. When we are convicted of our sin we need to be sorrowful, repent, and change our behavior.

Knowing the Word of God and believing in it are two different things. When we believe it, God’s power through Scripture transforms our lives and we have hope in salvation and our lives bear spiritual fruit.

We need to start by believing that God is for us and not against us, then trust Him in any difficult situation. When we trust God in seemingly impossible circumstances, we see His incredible glory shine through our lives in a way that points back to His work in and through us.

Jesus turned the world upside down because He was willing to give His own life for the will of the Father in order so that we might be saved. When we accept Him as our Savior, we should essentially be giving our whole lives to Him, willing to sacrifice anything He says, because His sacrifice was about so much more than simply giving us a ticket to Heaven. His sacrifice was about saving the world, and using us in the process.

When we ask God along the way before taking any steps in a relationship, He will guide and direct us to the blessing of marriage the way He intended for it to be. When in a relationship, it’s important to talk through all aspects of the future before diving into marriage.

Jesus paid the ultimate price for our freedom so that we could get out of the inevitable death sentence that sin brought to us. In order to claim this freedom we must first admit that we are guilty and in need of Him. Once we admit that we are dirty with sin, only then, through faith, can He make us clean.

What we need to understand is that we are not owners of what God has given us, which is everything, but rather we are stewards of it. When everyone gives what God calls them to give, everyone is taken care of.

Rather than worrying about our jobs, home, money, family, or anything else, we must spend time worshipping Jesus and knowing Him deeper so that we can be filled with His peace. When we solely focus on our relationship with Him, He provides for all of our other needs and uses us to reach others.

It is our responsibility as the Church Body to feed and to tend the other sheep in the Church, but we do not base whether or not to obey God on what others are doing. If God has called us to do something, we must respond in obedience, even if that means leaving some people behind.

Instead of focusing on all the stresses and financial debts we accrue over the holiday season, we need to be thankful for the gift that God has given us through His only Son, Jesus Christ. It is this gift that should give us joy through the season, and it is this gift that we should share with others.

When Jesus ate His last meal with His disciples, He took a moment to encourage them to remember the death that He was about to experience. It is in giving thanks that we remember the benefits that God gives to us, and so we must be thankful in all things and remember what He has done.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
