If You Please

September 1, 2016
Just as a parent is pleased when a child obeys them and desires to do things for them, God is pleased when we obey and serve Him. When we live our lives to please God, we will be amazed by the ways He uses us to touch others and rewards us all the while.

The Bible tells us that all of the pleasures of this world will never fix our own brokenness. Only God can change us from the inside out, and we must obey the things He commands to allow Him to give our lives purpose and meaning.

The inevitable truth is that all of us are going to die, but not all of us are sure of what happens to us after death. We can be certain of our salvation and that we will be in heaven because of Christ’s sacrifice to take on the payment of our sins. As the sand falls in our hourglass of a lifetime, our death wish should be to be with Jesus forever in heaven, as well as wishing that same fate for all those we know.

The Bible lays out for us how we are supposed to live our lives, modeling for others what it looks like to serve God and showing them what He’s done in and through us. When we have a model home, both our family life and our personal life, that becomes attractive to others and they are drawn to God.

The worry that we often feel is a result of our lack of trust in God. When we live our lives choosing to trust Him, rejoicing in whatever circumstances, His peace that is supernatural guards us from anxiety.

Jesus told us that as followers of Him, He has put His light in each of us to go light the darkness in the world. Through the light that shines in our hearts, God can use us to help change the world.

The moments when we give up our original plan for momentary pleasure can be huge mistakes that lead to grave consequences. We must remember to keep our focus on God and know that every choice we make has an impact on ourselves and others.

Often times the biggest hurdle for us to overcome when it comes to sin is ourselves. We can learn from the consequences we’ve experienced in the past and look at the path the our current struggles are taking us down. If we choose to learn from our consequences we will not be deceived and we will choose the path that leads to life.
August 24, 2016
There are things in our lives that can come between us and God such as sin struggles, distractions, or even other pleasurable things. We need to examine our lives and see what things we need to tear down so that it no longer stands in the way of God working in and through us.
August 23, 2016
There are situations that we get in when God is asking us to obey Him in something and our neck stiffens because we do not want to obey. In those situations we need to allow ourselves to be softened and adhere to what He’s calling us to do because He has a purpose, and it could be for the benefit of others that you’ll never know.
August 22, 2016
There are many gods that man has created, but the God of the Bible is the only true God. If we truly utilized all the faith that He has gracefully given to us, our lives would look very different. If we saw God for who He truly is, we would find ourselves not worrying at all about our circumstances that are in His control and yield our will to His.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website ( join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
