The Gospel story is that Jesus died a brutal death, was buried as a dead man, and rose to life. It is because of His sacrifice and His resurrection that we can be saved from the inevitable spiritual death that is due to sin. It is important that we share this good news with everyone we encounter, knowing that it is only God who can give them the faith to believe it.

When Jesus was crucified, His last words that He spoke while hanging on the cross told the thief He would see him in paradise, told His brother to take care of His mother, spoke of his humanness in being thirsty, and finally proclaimed the completion of the payment for sin. Christ’s death was the full payment once and for all, taking all of our sin on Himself, and finishing all that was needed so that we may be free.

The Bible tells us specifically that Mary was a virgin and that the Holy Spirit enabled her to conceive not just any baby, but God Himself within her womb. We celebrate the fact that God came to earth, experiencing every human experience from birth, and returned to heaven leaving an empty tomb.

The term “coup de grace” is a French term meaning a deathblow for the purpose of ending suffering. When Jesus died on the cross, He offered us a death blow to our life of sin and a new life forever in Him, and all we have to do is accept it.

Scripture shows time and time again where God kept the promises He made to His people. Rather than doubt Him fulfilling what He has promised and live in disobedience, we must believe what He says and walk in faith, trusting Him to keep His promises.

In the Old Testament Law, God said that when harvesting a field, anything left over after the harvesting should be left in the field for the poor, widows and orphans. God has blessed us with so much, but we tend to hold onto everything we have so tightly. Rather than being selfish with what we have, we should share it and bless someone else.

It is easy to be selfish with our money, but we must realize that it’s not even ours to begin with. When we live as though all of our money is God’s we will spend it differently and for the purpose of blessing others and glorifying Him.

In order for God to use us to bless others we need to go to Him for wisdom in using all the things He’s given us. When we seek His wisdom in our finances, we will bless us and bless others through us.

We all have things in our lives that annoy us like a constant drip of water or yapping Chihuahua. Rather than letting these things get the best of us, we should follow Christ’s example and keep our eyes on the Lord, learning from these things whatever it is He wants to teach us.

God is sovereign over all those in authority here on earth, and He has appointed each on to their place. While we may not understand His reasons, we must trust Him and obey His command to honor the authorities above us, submit to them, and pray for them.

Death can happen suddenly and we need to be prepared for it, first by choosing to accept God’s gift of salvation, and second by forgiving others and living according to God’s will. We may not know exactly when we will die but we can be ready.
