Gone Too Far

May 18, 2020

The story in the Bible of the prodigal son depicts for us a picture of God the Father anxiously waiting for us to come to Him no matter where we’ve been or what we’ve done. There is nothing that we can do that will ever keep Him from loving us and accepting us as His child.

In the Old Testament people had to make an animal sacrifice as payment for their sins, the aroma being satisfying to God. In Christ’s death, God no longer smelt the sacrifice, He tasted it Himself to make a payment for us so that we can experience true relationship with Him.

God does not cause fear and confusion for us. He offers us the Holy Spirit to live inside of us and fill us with power, love and a sound mind. When we have Him inside of us, nothing can stand against us.

The Bible tells us that we are to make sure that we are personally right with the Lord so that when we look at others and judge their works we can do so with compassion that leads them to the Gospel truth. We are not supposed to turn a blind eye to the sin in the world but instead we are called to point it out boldly for the purpose of telling about hope that is found in Jesus to forgive all sin.

We are promised that if we put our faith in Jesus and receive the gift of salvation that we will get to live in Heaven for eternity after death in this world. Once in Heaven we will have an understanding of why certain things happened on earth and we can worship God for the work He was doing that was unseen at the time.

God is loving, but there is a real heaven and hell and those who go to hell are the ones that have not accepted His gift of salvation. If our names are in the Book of Life, we must make sure that we are spreading the message of the Gospel to those whose names are not yet in the Book.

God gave His Son so that we could be made holy and acceptable to Him. We are called to be living sacrifices, continually surrendering our whole selves to Him so that He can do an amazing work in us to change us and reach the world.

While there are a lot of sorry mothers in the world who have made huge mistakes raising their children, redemption is still possible. Owning our mistakes, apologizing for them and moving forward as an example of following Jesus is the best thing a sorry mother can do, whether or not her children respond with forgiveness. God can always work with softened hearts that are willing to let Him mold them to make some changes.

the tree God had commanded them not to eat from. Sin continued in the world, yet in the midst of all of the mess we’ve made God had a plan all along that His own Son would be born into this world, take on human form and be the perfect sacrifice to pay for all of our sins so that we may be restored to a perfect relationship with God Himself.

No matter how tired we are or what difficulty we face, God is with us and ready to step in and provide for all our needs, even in miraculous ways. We must not fear what we face but instead listen to His voice, trust what He says, and obey Him.

The story of Ruth in the Bible shows a great example of what it means to trust God and obey. Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi and obedience to what she said led Ruth to marry Boaz, and later in their family line was Joseph, the father of Jesus who saved the world.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
