The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. The Bible teaches that if we walk in the light as He leads us to then we will have fellowship with other believers and He will cleanse us from our sins.

We are all in a spiritual battle, but the question is if we are fighting in it or if we are prisoners of war. We must trust God in all things and obey whatever He tells us to do. We cannot escape this battle and so the Bible tells us the armor we must wear in order to fight.

God chose us before the foundation of the world, but the sacrifice He made to have us was the death of His Son. God loves us enough to have paid that price, but we still must choose to follow Him. When we enlist in God’s army, He allows for circumstances in our lives to strengthen us and to cause us to rely on Him.

A common problem with American Christians is they are more tied to their American culture than to Christianity and spreading the Gospel. The Apostle Paul models for us the importance of not relinquishing his beliefs while adapting to different cultures and people groups.

We all struggle with sin that is directly linked to a part of our physical body such as our mind, tongue, stomach, eyes or hands. God wants us to surrender the parts of our body that cause us to struggle to Him so that He can heal the pain that sin causes in our lives.

Instead of being so stubbornly set in our own ways, we need to yield our lives to God and the instructions He gives us in Scripture. His design for living rightly is not purposed in taking away all of our fun but rather to provide a full life for us that is worth living for Him.

We can look to ungodly people and envy their careless and seemingly rewarding lifestyle when we struggle to live God’s way and keep meeting trial after trial. The fact of life is that trouble comes for everyone, but when we live faithfully and trust God in all times, He answers us when we call to Him in our times of trouble and He gives us strength to make it through.

The Church, made up of all believers, is the Bride of Christ, and as such we are to submit to Him in whatever He calls us to do. Christ loves His bride, so much so that He died for her, and this love is revealed to us throughout Scripture. So we now have a choice to either go head to head with Him who loves us, or let Him be the head of His Church and submit to His will.

God loves us because of who we are regardless of what we do. When we accept the fact that we are loved, the doing follows and we can then obey Him and love others. Instead of focusing on doing in order to define our being, we need to let our being determine our doing.

A battle cross to mark the place of a death does not mean much to people who did not know that person, but it symbolizes a great loss to those who knew them. Jesus died on a cross to win a battle for us but it only means something if we are in relationship with Him.

Following Jesus requires us to jump all in, not looking back or letting anything else take our loyalty. Even if we stumble and don’t do things perfectly, we can still be moving forward as long as we keep our eyes on Him and ultimately yield to His calling.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
