Sin keeps us leaning towards testing the rules and breaking the laws. The laws were put in place to reveal our sin to us, but Jesus died so that we do not have to live under the weight of the law in our own strength. When we live in relationship with Him and follow in the steps of the Spirit, we no longer consistently check off the list of rules but instead find ourselves living freely within the boundaries God set for us.

We may or may not have every reason to complain about the difficulties we face, but regardless of our circumstances we need to choose to trust God and not complain about what’s going on. We can pray and ask Him to change things, but ultimately our joy comes from Him and so we need not complain.

When we choose to disobey what God asks of us, it is not only ourselves individually that suffer the consequences but others suffer as well. Suffering is an inevitable part of life, but we can either choose to walk through it in obedience to God and reap the blessings He gives or walk away from Him and increase the suffering even more.

Will our lives have an impact on the world after we are gone? God has a plan and purpose for us to reach other people wherever He places us, telling them about Him and discipling them to grow in relationship with Him. As we disciple others, we are also teaching them to disciple others and multiply Christ’s followers.

Jesus invites us to ask for anything, but rather than immaturely asking for material possessions, we should turn around and ask God for whatever it is that He wants to give to us. When God gives us something, He usually changes us at the same time and we must be ready for it, allowing Him to use our lives however He pleases.

Jesus left us with the power of the Holy Spirit, commanding us to make disciples of anyone we come in contact with as we go about our lives following Him. This is a job that cannot be done by a few people, but it will take all of us working hard to spread the message of the Gospel, and we only have this life to do it.

Rather than wasting the time we have on earth by filling our lives with meaningless things, we need to remember why God has us hear and share the good news of His Gospel with others. He has promised to reward us in heaven when we fight for Him, never give up, and finish well.

The most important thing in life is not to do a bunch of good, even religious things, but rather it is to spend time building our relationship with Jesus. Life can get plenty busy and we can be easily distracted, but we must make sure to stop what we’re doing to sit at Jesus’ feet and just listen to what He might have to say to us.

The Bible is very clear about how God’s people are supposed to give financially to His Church, as well as how that money is to be used. When we give begrudgingly, God is not pleased with our money. It is when we give cheerfully because we love Him that He is pleased with our gift and promises to always take care of all of our needs.

We often long for things out of the ordinary, yet the Christian life is meant to be lived on an everyday basis. There will be times of trials and struggles, when life is pressing hard on us, but the hope is that God has promised that we will never be crushed.

We didn’t get to be there when Jesus walked the earth, but we have God’s truth in Scripture to believe that He came. Another evidence of Jesus is the change that takes place when we believe in Him. We may not see Him face to face until we die or He comes back, but we can see His work in others and believe.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
