Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

February 21, 2012

It is a common habit in the church to put on a facade and cover up whatever sin we may be struggling with, living in the relaxed state of knowing that no one will ask about the struggles in your life so you don’t have to tell anyone.  Rather than living this way, God calls us as a Church to be in communion and relationship with one another, carrying each other’s burdens, praying for one another, and sharpening each other.  Another way that Christians commonly live is to avoid the topic of Christianity all together, not asking anyone else if they are a believer and not telling anyone whether you are or not.  The consequences of living this way can be extremely detrimental, robbing you of the opportunity to share the Gospel and lead others to Christ, rescuing them from an eternity in hell.  As a follower of Christ, we are called to live in relationship with one another, and proclaiming the Good News to all.

Hey Jude
February 20, 2012
Beside the fact that many of us have faced, are facing or will face tragic situations, we are all a broken people.  That is what sin has done to us, whether we see our own brokenness or not.  The good news is that God can heal our broken hearts, and He longs to do that because he loves us.  At the same time, we often must also face some consequences, just as a sheep who runs from the flock must have their legs broken before being carried back by the shepherd.  It may take a long time, and there may always be scars that remind us of when we were broken, but God desires to heal our hearts and make us whole and complete in Him.  When we see those scars, rather than hearing the accusations of the devil, may we praise God for His healing in our lives.

All of us make mistakes quite frequently in our lives.  Too often we let those mistakes take us out rather than choosing to pick ourselves back up and accept God’s forgiveness right away.  No matter how many times we mess up, God is always willing to give us another chance.  He is full of grace and mercy, ready and willing to help us start anew.  Scripture tells us story after story of people that God gave a “do over” and we are no different.  Just as God forgives us and allows us to start over with Him, we should also show the same grace to others when they wrong us.

Just Face It
February 16, 2012
God created us to be in communion with others.  When He calls us to give our lives to Him, He does not intend for us to follow Him alone.  We need to be involved with other people, letting them into our lives to keep us accountable.  That is the only way that we will be able to stand strong against the attacks of the devil and to continue to remain in God’s truth, unwavering.  When other people surround us with support, prayer and encouragement, we remain in the direction that has us chasing after God, even when the devil sets all his traps to get us off course.  We cannot do the Christian life alone.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
