When we continually do work for God out of our own strength we end up tired and worn down. It is good to believe what we read in Scripture and follow that up with obedience to do what it says, but we must also apply faith in that He will do what He has promised in and through us.

The Bible talks about listening to the Spirit and obeying whatever He tells you to do when He tells you in many places. We all struggle with different sins, and the Spirit works on each of us at different times, but when He starts telling you to stop what you’re doing, it’ll be a struggle but it’ll be worth it to stop.

When we accept God’s grace in our lives and become saved the Bible tells us that we die to sin and have the power to live righteously in Christ. When we’re dead to sin, that means the things we used to struggle with no longer has dominion over us. Yielding to the flesh leads to sin and suffering, but yielding to the Spirit leads to righteousness.

When Jesus died on the cross He purchased our salvation and now freely offers it to each one of us. We may still mess up after we accept that free gift but because of His grace we can get back up and follow Him.

In this day and age we have so many churches, also known as orphanages for new believers, but not enough disciples making disciples. If we are really followers of Christ then we will put away our fears and obey His calling to make disciples.

Many people have a fear of death but if we are Christians we don’t need to fear because we can know that we will be in Heaven for eternity. Rather than wasting our time in fear or ignoring other peoples’ fate, we must tell them about Christ so that they can live in the same hope.

The Old Testament Law, all the rules that we could follow, comes with a curse of death because if we break one we break them all, and it is impossible to follow them all. Christ’s death changed everything and it is only by faith in Him that we can be saved from the fate of deserving death up a tree.

When we try our hardest to act godly, the work will eventually wear us down and our flesh will reveal itself in the ugliness that it naturally carries in sin.  When we yield ourselves to Jesus, His work in our lives manifests itself in the fruit of the Spirit that others will notice and wonder what reason we have for the change that has taken place in our lives.

Tragedy happens in this world and the reason why boils down to the sin issue in humanity. Jesus took on all sin when He died, allowing for everyone to be saved.

We can all feel let down at certain times in our lives by others, by God, or even by ourselves. No matter what our circumstances may be, God promises comfort and that He will provide for all we need to do the work He has called us to do until we go home to Him.

There are different instances where God is out of sight yet in every one we are called to trust Him. He often brings us to places where our faith is stretched because we are not sure how He is going to provide for our needs, but He always provides all that we need when we seek Him first above all things.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
