Cracked Pots

October 10, 2019

Every one of us is a cracked pot because not one of us is perfect. It is God’s grace that can use those cracks in our pots to draw others to Him if we are vulnerable enough to reveal them to others, and as God shows us the cracks in our lives He also mends them. Regardless of our cracks, we still must bring the water to the thirsty world that God has us in for that reason.

God designed things so that He gets all the glory in everything. He used the cross, which seemed foolish to the world, to save all those who believe. He draws the seemingly foolish and weak because they admit their need for Him freely which then brings Him glory.

A common downfall for churches is the tendency to thicken the walls around the religion and become so exclusive that people with messy lives who outwardly need the most help are not welcome. Instead of keeping people out, we should be a Church family that welcomes everyone in, not being deterred by their mess but rather coming alongside them to help them bring it to Jesus.

While it makes perfect sense that the life of a newborn Christian would still look messy, there needs to be growth and maturity the longer time goes on. Christians should be known more for their love for Christ, each other and the world rather than known for strife, envy and divisions.

We are all given this life on earth, but all of us will die from here. We can choose to live our lives for God by having faith in Christ and being saved so that we can live again with Him in Heaven. We can also choose to live this life giving into all that the world offers and at the end find that hell awaits us. The choice is ours.

Just as an earthly parent disciplines their children, God disciplines us when we make mistakes. All of our mistakes have consequences, but God gives us those consequences so that we can learn and move forward. If we’re experiencing consequences over the same thing, we must learn from our mistakes and move on.

The job of ministry is not just for vocational pastors but rather for all Christians. We are all called to follow Jesus and the example of living that He gave, reaching out to the lost and being a minister of revival and restoration.

Religion requires us to attain knowledge and apply it to our lives so that our behavior changes. God offers us so much more than that when He comes into our lives and makes the words that we read in Scripture dwell in our hearts and change us from the inside out.

Our lives are marked by millstones and milestones. Millstones are moments of our lives where we have made a tragic mistake. Milestones are those monumental times that something great has happened. When we are discipled by another, they can help our millstones turn into milestones so that we can then help others, expanding the Kingdom of God.

God loves us and we can trust Him, obey Him, and know that His way is always best. It may cost us and we may be called to sacrifice things that we hold tightly, but He will always come through for us and the sacrifices will always be worth it.

When difficult circumstances come we often automatically think that it is the devil that is at work but it can actually be God at work in us. He has to be inside already in order to work in us and through us so our first step is to let Him in, then allow Him to do His work.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
