Call Waiting

November 3, 2015

At some point in our lives God gives us a calling, however it is common for many to ignore it. The reason we ignore the calling that God gives is because we think that by following His calling we will lose our life, all the while overlooking the fact that we already lost it by not following God’s call.

Too often we turn to things such as alcohol to fulfill our lives and we are let to drunkenness that makes us act like fools. Beginning a relationship with Jesus is the only thing that truly fulfills us. It may make us look silly to others, but the love, joy, peace and other fruits of the Spirit is proof to everyone that we have something they need.

Although God does not act for the purpose of harming anyone, He does use tragic events for His ultimate plan. God’s mercy and grace are found when He is glorified through a difficult situation such as a hurricane, tsunami, or other event.

There are plenty of evils in this world, yet God has chosen us as His followers to dwell in us in order so that we may become more like Him and be able to fight against the powers of darkness. Once the Spirit dwells in us there is nothing that can ever separate Him from us.

We are either being played by the devil or played by God. When we continue to bite at the bait the devil lays for us, we suffer consequences and miss out on the ways God could be using us. We must yield our lives to Jesus as our Lord and allow Him to accomplish His amazing work through us.

Many people chase after riches on earth but those riches last only a miniscule of time in terms of eternity. God promises to take care of us no matter what so our focus should be on people because sharing the Gospel and influencing people for Christ is what stores up riches in Heaven where we will live forever.

The Old Testament tells us the way in which people had to sacrifice an animal so that blood would be shed to cover their sins. When Jesus came and died, it was His blood that covered the sin of all who accept His sacrifice.

Adam and Eve started in the Garden of Eden naked with no shame, but after sin they saw their nakedness and became ashamed. God slaughtered an animal in order to provide covering for them. When Jesus was crucified on the cross, it was His blood that clothed us forever in His righteousness so that someday when we stand before God we do not have to be naked and ashamed.

It’s easy to fall into believing the lie that because of our past God can’t use us. However, there are several characters in the Bible that God chose to use despite their shortcomings. God has specifically chosen each of us to be used for His work, and He will equip us with all we need to accomplish it.

Jesus was God forsaken when He submitted to His death on the cross so that we could be in right standing with God and never be forsaken. Not only does His death give us eternal life, but it puts us in right relationship with God so that He can help us walk through the trials and difficulties of everyday life.

Once we admit that Jesus is Lord, it puts us in second place. Rather than focusing on ourselves as number one, we need to see ourselves as number two and serve God first in all things. When we begin a relationship with Christ we make the commitment to Him with words to show in our lives that He truly is Lord.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
