God has determined the length of each of our lives, but we do not know when our time is up. Rather than wasting the time He gives us by running our own lives, we need to submit to Him and let Him use us however He pleases.

God loves us so much that He gave up everything to get us into His family. When we are part of His family, the people He cares about become people we care about and we find ourselves caring for the poor, widows, orphaned, and imprisoned.

Jesus taught us that we must deny ourselves, take up our crosses and follow Him. In order to obey that command, we have to first humble ourselves and lay prostrate before the Father, submitting ourselves to His will no matter what suffering it may hold.

We believe in a God who came down in person and lived among us here on earth before dying for our sins. We ought to follow the Lord’s prompting and show up in person wherever He leads us whether at work, a neighbor’s, a friend’s, or even a different country.

God had a purpose for the lives of Jacob and Esau, and nothing they could do would change His plan. They made a mess of things, just like we do in our own lives, but Jesus came later on down the line and cleaned it all up.

As followers of Christ, we are not only human but rather we have the power of God Almighty in us to resist temptations. God gives us everything we need to overcome sin, we just need to keep our eyes focused on Him so that we can utilize His power to live a godly life.

While there are many religious gurus that can be thrown around, there is only one single name that carries power in it and that is the name of Jesus Christ. When we follow Him and seek to glorify Him in all that we do, we are given His power in His name to do His work.

Everyone can make plans in their lives, but we must always remember to leave those plans open for God to change. Sometimes the way God gets us to where He wants us to go is never the way we would have chosen, and we must still worship Him when tragedy hits after the fact.

God never lets us drift off without sending warning signs, just like the sleeper lines in the road that help keep us alert and in the correct lane. He will send us wise people who will warn us, as well as lead us to specific Scriptures, but it is still our choice to listen or to rebel.

When we’re faced with obstacles, we need to make a decision for how to overcome the obstacle and commit to fighting through, even if it gets hard. Jesus was steadfast and focused when He was on earth, and He gave us a great example to follow.

Rather than continuing to do things our own way, it cannot hurt trying God’s way and seeing the difference it makes. Once we really apply His Word to our lives, then we will see the life transformation of His work in us.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
