Before It Gets Better

February 5, 2013
There is a big difference between living a moral life and living a godly life. There are all kinds of sins in the world, sins that we all face at one time or another. Choosing to not give into those sins because of moral pride sets us up for failure because we can never resist temptation completely on our own. Realizing the obedient lifestyle that God has designed for us and the purpose He has for us allows us to face temptation grounded on a foundation of Scripture. Life will have its hardships, but there will be a reward in heaven for obeying God amidst all difficult circumstances.

Just as it is necessary to continually wash our clothes and our bodies because of how dirty we get, it is necessary to wash ourselves spiritually.  The way we are instructed to do this is through the Word on a daily basis.  We should not depend on a weekly cleaning of going to church because throughout each week we get spiritually filthy and we wreak of that filth.  God wants us to present ourselves before Him as holy.  It is through Christ’s blood that we can be completely washed white as snow, but it is through the necessary daily cleaning that we can remain clean.

As part of the family of God, we have a responsibility to each other to remain spiritually right with God so that when we see a brother or sister struggling then we can call them out on it and help them through it.  Too often we leave that job to pastors or people in authority, but it is just as much our responsibility to go after lost sheep.  We need to remember to go after them, however, in a gentle manner, showing them the love of Christ despite their sinful choices.  Just as God through Christ came to rescue us, we also must rescue one another.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website ( join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
