Turning Around Is Not Failure
God never shames us for recognizing a wrong turn. He welcomes us back and leads us toward the life He intended.
Bonnie Sala: Sometimes the bravest moment in a person’s life is the one where they finally turn around. I’m Bonnie Sala with Reset. Have you ever sensed you’re on the wrong path? There’s a saying: it’s better to admit you walked through the wrong door than to spend your life in the wrong room.
Against the advice of his parents and friends, Bryce had asked his girlfriend to marry him. They had a ring and a date, but as the date approached, he had doubts he just couldn’t silence. He called off the engagement. Many of us aren’t that brave. We stay in patterns that repeat the same pain. Change feels risky, and familiar paths, even unhealthy ones, often feel safer. But over time, our choices tell a different story.
When we come to God and admit we’ve taken a wrong turn, He never shames us. He meets us with mercy and leads us back onto a path that gives life. Jesus told a story about a young man who realized the direction he’d chosen was destroying him. When he finally admitted it, the Bible says he came to his senses and turned back toward home. He was welcomed and celebrated.
God knows we don’t always choose perfectly. The Bible’s Proverbs remind us that we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. And sometimes, when we’ve charged ahead without God’s wisdom, that means stopping and changing direction. Turning around is not failure. When we’ve strayed from God’s way and turn around, it’s called repentance. It is simply turning back toward the way you should go, toward God and His truth.
If something in your life has been marked by unrest, pay attention. Sometimes the most faithful step forward is a courageous step in the other direction. I’m Bonnie Sala. Ready to grow your faith? Discover practical tools and more at Guidelines.org.
