Does God Really Love Me?

Jesus is not absent from suffering. Your pain is known, shared and taken seriously by God.

Bonnie Sala: In overwhelming pain, Matt asked, "Does God really love me?" I’m Bonnie Sala with Reset. As a child, Matt was abused and betrayed by the one person who was supposed to protect him: his father. For decades, the pain stayed buried, and then it erupted with devastating force.

In moments of unspeakable pain, doubt whispers, "If God loves me, why would He let this happen?" At the heart of faith is one question: Is God good? If you believe He is, you can trust His love even when life doesn’t make sense. If you don’t, trust becomes almost impossible. If you struggle to believe God loves you, here are two truths to anchor you.

First, God declares this about you in His book, the Bible: "I have loved you with an everlasting love." He promises that nothing—not fear, grief, or death—can separate you from His love. Second, know that Jesus was willing to pay the price of sacrifice so that you could be healed. One day, as Matt worked through painful memories, his counselor asked him to imagine Jesus sitting next to him as a child. "What would you want to say to Jesus?" the counselor asked.

In his mind, Matt turned to Jesus and asked, "Why didn’t you do anything about what happened to me?" Then, as Matt sat quietly with his eyes closed, he saw Jesus silently turn to him and offer His scarred hands. Matt understood: God's love wasn't disproved by what happened to him; it was revealed in the cross. You may not have every answer in this life, but you can rest in this: God's word declares His love for you, and the cross proves it. I’m Bonnie Sala. Ready to grow your faith?
