God is always with us, even when we feel abandoned. There are times of dryness that we go through, or there are those who will conspire against us because of our faith in Christ. Still, no matter what happens to us here on earth, it doesn’t mean God doesn’t care, but is working in us the most.

Paul’s example of a clear conscience tells us that we need to guard our own conscience. But, the conscience only functions on what is known. It can only deal with what was, not what shall be in the future. Paul’s argument for the Gospel was based on experience, and from trusting in the Word of God.

We love our comfort, and our stuff. But God, in His love for us, wants us to be prepared for what’s coming when our earthly comforts fail us, and thieves rob us of our possessions. To follow Christ is to be hated in this world. But, we’re not of this world. Our treasure is waiting for us in Heaven.

As Christians, we are to stand day by day, and moment by moment on God’s Word, the Bible. The Christian is to always to be set, and ready to be used by God, in spite of being treated with contempt for following Christ. Peter also reminds us not to worry or be deterred from God’s plan, because when we are in Christ, nothing can harm us.

A bad situation doesn’t mean that God is not in it. The crowd wanted Paul to die. But, it wasn’t yet God’s timing, and gave Paul a chance to give a testimony of his past, and what God’s will is for their future.

Paul gets the chance to give an account of his life since he first met Christ on the road to Damascus. But, as he was giving a defense for his mission there, the people interrupted him. And, just before he was to be beaten, Paul tells the guards that he is a Roman citizen. Sharing Jesus with enthusiasm got Paul in a lot of trouble, but God protected him, even from his own people.
