What Kind Of Church Are You? - 7A

January 28, 2022

Laodicea had a pastor who was not serious about the things of God. He wouldn't take a stand for Christ, or obey His Word. In fact, the pastor was so in the wrong that Jesus tries to get him and his ministry back on course.

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

Jesus told the church at Philadelphia that they had little strength. But, this was good. They were not self-reliant as a church, they were God reliant. They believed in the truth of the Gospel, even when there were those who wanted to lead them back into a legal relationship with God.

The pastor at the Church of Philadelphia is a great example for us. He loved the Lord, and his faith held firm to the principles of the Bible. He also loved and cared for his church, but still had a passion to share the Gospel. His calling to follow Christ never wavered.

When all hope seems to have slipped away, we must be determined to press forward. To look at ourselves personally, and look towards God’s approval. Are we good and faithful servants, rejoicing in His promises that endure, and continuing on with personal passion?

A church that forgets its humble beginnings needs to repent, and hold fast onto Jesus, remembering what they have seen and heard. To become vigilant again about what matters, while watching and waiting for His return.

A church needs to be where the Spirit of the Lord is moving. Totally dependent on God, and not resting on its reputation. When the Spirit is no longer the church's source of power, the church will become sickly, covering themselves up in the white robes of an empty religion.

A church is in danger of old age, they’ll do things the way they've always done it. The pastor’s sermons will begin to sound the same, and past experiences will be more exciting and dynamic than the present ones.

A church will be like those who attend it. Churches are supposed to be alive and vibrant, as opposed to the dark forces that surround it. But, when Jesus is no longer the counselor, and no longer consulted, the church will not survive.

When God examines our Christianity, will He find us diligently applying the Bible to our everyday life. Will He find us not stuck in religion, but knowing, and trusting Him with our eternity, never looking to another.
January 17, 2022
When our Christianity is vibrant and healthy, there will be obvious signs of life. We will be a church of good works, rooted in love and willing to attend to the needs of the people. Our faith will have strong moral and spiritual convictions, with a total reliance on Christ, as we patiently wait for His return.
