Unity, The Second Most Important Thing - 2B

May 5, 2017

As it was in the days of Paul, and as it is today, the world is hostile towards believers. So, truth is often sacrificed to achieve unity. But, what unites us is the truth - God’s truth. That’s why the study of God’s Word, the Bible, is so important. We need to have truth to be like-minded, in one accord, and to elevate others higher than ourselves. Unity comes second to loving one another, and speaking the truth in love.

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

Today, Pastor Jack shares with us John 14: 6, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”.  This tells us that all other ways to God are false. There is no other truth. And, only in Christ Jesus do we have life. This means we are spiritually dead without Him.

Christian fellowship can only happen if it is Christ-centered. A fellowship that binds us together not only in biblical affection, but in mercy.  Affection and mercy go hand in hand, and cannot exist without the other. For the Christian is called to act upon their concern for those in need…

Unity is not more important than truth. But, a Christ-centered humility creates unity. It softens our hearts towards others, and it moves us towards compassion for one another’s needs. It is a fellowship of the Spirit as we strive together, for the faith of the Gospel message.

In Philippians chapter 1, Paul the apostle encourages us Christians not to be moved by the world’s attacks or threats. For the world will use us and leave us broken. Instead, we are to put our trust in Christ, who can wash our sins away through His blood , by His dying on the cross.

Are you speaking the truth with love, and have a concern for others?  Does our conduct line up with sound, Biblical Doctrine? Are we, as believers, contending for the faith by advancing the Gospel message, and are we fully engaged in the battle against our adversary, the devil?

Today, Pastor Jack reminds us of the 5 keys to being a Relevant Christian. The very nature of resilience is the confidence we have in knowing that God, who has begun a good work in us, will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Paul also tells us that to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Paul the apostle encouraged the Philippian Church to stand fast, in one spirit and one mind, striving together for the faith of the Gospel. Likewise, Christians today are to do the same. And, we are not to be terrified in any way by world threats, attacks, policies or influences.

As Christians, we are to be relentless in spreading the Gospel message of hope and faith to a lost world. To be an illustration of what God is like to a world that has no answer, our conduct must be worthy of the Gospel of Christ. That way, we can take His message of salvation wherever we go.

As we spiritually develop and grow, our values begin to change. The material things of the world fade as our desire to serve others grows. We would even be willing to postpone heaven so others might grow closer to Christ through our example.
April 24, 2017
To become fruitful in our labor, as Paul was, we need to be devoted to wherever God plants us. We should also be asking ourselves if our activities honor God.  Do our thoughts and resources go towards serving Jesus? And, what do we do in our spare time that promotes the Gospel?
