The Apostle's Farewell Address - 5A

December 14, 2018

Like Paul, we need to grow and mature in the things of God, and have a servant’s heart and attitude in whatever position the Lord Jesus has us in. Paul also encourages the leaders there, by leaving them in the comfort and security of Christ, and in the grace found in His Word.

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

Pastor Jack shares the dangers that can ruin a church. Carelessness will leave us sleeping at the wheel. Shallowness leaves us unbalanced in prayer and in the Word. Covetousness will have us consumed by wanting more and more, while laziness renders us useless. And, finally, selfishness keeps us from sharing Christ to those around us.

Today, Pastor Jack tells us how important the church is to God. The church holds great value to Him because it has His name on it. And, it’s important to Christ, the Son, because His blood is over it. And, it’s also important to the Holy Spirit because He lives inside it. So, we need to ask ourselves, how important is God’s church to us?

Like Paul, our mission is for the Gospel, and for the church. This requires a private life of daily Bible study, and a quiet time of worship and devotion. That way our conscience is clear that we’ve done all we can to respond to God’s calling on our lives.

We need to see the church, as Christ sees the church. And, we need to see the world as Christ sees it. What does that mean? It means we take advantage of every opportunity to share the Gospel, in love and with the humility of Christ.

In Paul’s final briefing to the church leaders in Ephesus, he shares how his conscience is clear towards all people, and challenges them about their own conscience. Where they ready and willing to take on the responsibility to share the Gospel, after he is gone?

Today, Pastor Jack gives us the four R’s of humility. First, we’re to Recognize who we are “compared” to Christ. Second, to Recover from our past mistakes. Third, to Remember who we are “in” Christ, and finally, to Rejoice in Christ, and how we are now recognized in Him!

Paul is a great example of what it means to be a Christian. He isn’t concerned about rejection, but His thoughts are for the people. Paul served the Lord with great humility, and tears. And, he kept his eyes on Jesus, even through severe trials and testing.

You can be right in the center of God’s will, while smack in the middle of a storm. Paul’s journey around Ephesus was filled with delays, hardships, and strong opposition from those who worshipped other Gods. Still, he considered it a blessing, and was able to overcome it.

The Apostle’s farewell journey was filled with love and affection. Paul wrapped his arms around the people, leaving a lasting impression of comfort and encouragement. And, Paul’s faithfulness to his mission reminds us of Christ and His seal upon us, that we belong to Him.

God values souls over financial gain. And, we’ll see this when Paul preaches to the crowds at Ephesus. The sellers of idols were losing income and blamed Paul for it. So, they shouted back at Paul in anger. Satan will come at us, with either loud boisterous attacks, or he’ll use a subtle calmness to stop our effect on others for the Gospel.
