Jack Hibbs

Parable of The Prodigal, 3C

June 25, 2015

We now look at one of the most well-known of our Lord’s Parables: the one commonly called, The Parable of the Prodigal Son.  But, of course, if you’ve been following along, you know that Pastor Jack prefers to call it simply, The Parable of the Prodigal.  We all know the story of the young man who prematurely squandered his entire inheritance.  There’s much more to learn from this Parable than just the son who needed to be broken to finally see his need for repentance.

References: Luke 15:11-32

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

This parable speaks of justification vs. self-righteousness. We’re talking about The Parable of the Pharisee and the Sinner as found in chapter eighteen of Luke’s gospel. It’s about two men: One is very religious, and the other quite irreligious, in fact despised by the people.
