My Dear Thyatira, I've Written You A Letter - A

April 6, 2021

Thyatira was more like a large town. Still, it had an important military post used by the Roman Empire, and the church in Thyatira, like today, was facing many challenges. It’s why God, with all His power and authority is warning them against immoral leadership and false teachings. In particular, allowing sinful acts within the fellowship.

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

As Christians, we can’t have one foot in the world, and one foot in the church and think we’re right with God. We decide, after looking at the temptation, whether or not to act on it. Temptation comes from our own desires, and when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. Like the church of Pergamos, we cannot mix worldly cultures with the doctrines of the Bible.

On this special Good Friday edition of Real Radio, Pastor Jack shares what Jesus did of His own free will when He died on the cross for our sins, and rose again so we can spend eternal life in Heaven with Him. Jesus endured extreme torture and shame to the point of death for one reason. You and I. Jesus made Himself the final atonement for sin. Never again will there have to be a sacrifice for our sins.

Like Pergamos, our cities are full of immorality and compromise, and God wants us to be prepared with the truth. God’s Word the Bible, is sharper than a two-edged sword. It exposes the human heart and mind with judgement, but also with salvation, forgiveness and healing.

In this global pandemic, we are making church history. Right now, in real time we’re watching Biblical prophecies form. Jesus said there would be days like these. And, as we approach the church at Pergamos, we’ll discover two overriding themes. The issue of faith, even unto death, verses extreme compromise with the world.

Like the church in Smyrna, Jesus knows who we are and how we are doing today. The church will never be the same after the Covid crisis, but...that’s a good thing. The Gospel is going out worldwide, and millions are being saved. Through our smartphones and iPads the simple message of salvation through Jesus Christ is spreading far beyond the local church and its influence.

The world takes pieces out of us, but Jesus gives us a peace that passes all understanding. Leaders want to silence the church through isolation, and say it’s for our own good. But, the Lord tells us to put our trust in Him, and He will make a way. The church of Smyrna is alive and well today, by remaining faithful, and believing that God will fulfill His promises to them in the end.

Smyrna was a church in distress, and dealing with great persecution. But, Jesus tells them I Am the First and the Last, and with you in all things. The Lord knew every act of love and kindness coming out of their lives, and reminds them not to fear those who torment them, or what they are about to suffer.

When Alexander the Great came to Smyrna, he rebuilt the city to such greatness that the people of Smyrna boasted of once being dead, but now we live. The root word of Smyrna, is Myrrh which means bitter or strong, and when ingested could be a healer. It’s where Caesers were first called Lords, and elevated as gods. But, Jesus wrote to the church in Smyrna to encourage them, and to remind them of who He is in their life.

Love cannot survive alone. It’s why we must not compromise when it comes to our faith, or get distracted from keeping God first in our lives. His love for us will not allow it, and He will do whatever it takes to bring us to repentance.

During the Covid 19 crisis, the world is being silenced to our homes. But, God is shouting in the silence, to look at what He’s showing us, and to lean into what He is doing in us.
