The first century church was of one heart, and one soul, and shared their possessions with one another. But, the oneness is soon broken when Ananias and Sapphira hold back a portion of their offering, and lie to the Apostles about the true amount.

While prayer is in front of the church, or prepares the way, God’s Word is behind the church, or backs it up with scripture. And, when a church is praying, and studying God’s Word together, there is a unity among the believers.

It is when the Apostle Peter boldly speaks of no other salvation in anyone other than Jesus Christ, that the persecution begins. So, the Apostles gathered for prayer, and glorified God. And, they asked for more signs and wonders, and even a greater boldness.

The Apostles Peter and John were severely threatened by the Sadducees, and were told not to preach or perform any more miracles. But, the Apostles chose to follow the Holy Spirit, and not men.

When God wants to do a new work, such as the acts of the Apostles, it’s always done in harmony with the Old Testament. But, the Sadducees, who don’t believe in the supernatural, and who were in control of Jerusalem, were furious with the healing miracles, and conversions to Christ.

About Jack Hibbs

Jack Hibbs is the founder and senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Southern California. Jack and his wife, Lisa, began Calvary Chapel Chino Hills as a home Bible study fellowship/church plant from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in 1990.

Today, the church ministers weekly to over 14 thousand people on campus and to millions worldwide through the Real LIfe Television and Radio broadcast. Weekly, the Real Life broadcast can be heard on over 500 stations in the United States, including SiriusXM satellite radio.
