It's Always Too Soon To Quit - B

November 19, 2018

When Paul reached the city of Corinth, God gave him a vision to not be afraid, but to keep preaching. Many were against Paul’s teachings, and this discouraged him. So, God also sent fellow servants and faithful friends to be with him, including Silas and Timothy, and Priscilla and Aquila, who were fellow tent makers.

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

Thinking there are no absolutes in life is a dangerous way to live. The people of Athens were very sincere about worshipping their mini Gods. So, Paul gently points out that sincerity is not an indicator of the truth. He also tells them that there’s only one God, and He is available to all, and the Savior for all.

Paul found an altar in Athens with an inscription that read, “To The Unknown God”. So, he speaks to the crowd that this unknown god is the one who made the world and everything in it. He also told them that life isn’t all about pleasure or amusement, or about being self-sufficient. It’s in God that we’ll find lasting joy.

There’s a fullness of joy in serving God. And, we’re to test the scriptures, to see if Christ’s message isn’t true. God will use us when we’ve discovered for ourselves the answer for the joy and the hope that is within us.

We, as believers, have a tendency to hold back when facing opposition to our faith. But, just like in Paul's’ day, it’s not the time to be neutral or passive when it comes to sharing the Gospel. Instead, it’s time to be bold and courageous when eternity is at stake for those who don’t know Christ.

Paul’s focus was on saving the captain of the jail. And, when this hardcore jailer is converted to Christ by Paul, he invites them to his house, where he dresses their wounds, and where he, and all his family believe in God, and are baptized.

Midnight is the worst time for pain and torment. Still, Paul and Silas sang prayers to God, while the other prisoners listened intently. And, hearing their worship, God opens all the prison doors with an earthquake. Paul, however, remembers his mission and saves the prison captain from suicide.

Both Paul and Silas continue to preach the Word of God, no matter what. Paul understood that even in prison with shackles on their hands and feet, that God had His Hand on them. They even sang praises to the Lord, as they waited on Him, in faith.

A true follower of Christ also needs to let go of the past, be present in the things of the Lord, and have a hope for the future.

In Acts chapter 16, we read of a slave girl possessed by spirits who followed Paul for many days. So, Paul finally turned and rebuked the spirits, and they left her. She spoke the truth about Paul, but Satan was trying to derail Paul with her flattery. Satan’s subtle ways didn’t fool Paul, but he still uses the same tactics on us today.
