When we step from death into life, we are awakening to a new reality. The world has written us off as fools. But, because of the cross of Christ, our interest in all things attractive is considered foolishness to us.

Paul’s fervor comes from a desire for us to put to death the legalism in our lives. Our flesh is spiritually dead, no matter how much we try to make a good showing. And, without the saving grace of Jesus Christ, we will continue to live boasting in our good works.

A living and loving body of believers, not bound by the law, but a church who is taught by God to love one another, as Christ loves us. A church, Jesus style, is also one that actively cares when others are overtaken in a sin, because Spiritual restoration is the very nature of our ministry.

We are to love a believer back from sin by going to them privately. We are not to gossip with others about it. Instead, we are to help to restore the sinner by leading them into repentance, and back into fellowship.

Legalism holds down and drowns the sinner, but love lifts up and stabilizes the sinner. We are to love them back into fellowship God’s way. And, that is through the spirit of gentleness should we also find ourselves tempted by sin.

Jack Hibbs is the founder and senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Southern California. Jack and his wife, Lisa, began Calvary Chapel Chino Hills as a home Bible study fellowship/church plant from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in 1990.

Today, the church ministers weekly to over 14 thousand people on campus and to millions worldwide through the Real LIfe Television and Radio broadcast.
