In God We Trust, Part 2 - 1B

May 7, 2019

Trusting in the Lord means to wait on Him to act. Waiting then turns to resting, which gives us our strength. Then having rest in our Spirit, leads us towards a heart of worship. But like many of us today, Judah chose to trust the strength of their own allies rather than in the peace of God.

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

We all operate in a realm of trust. It’s based on relationship, that’s proven and tested through time. But trust is fragile. It can easily be violated or broken. Israel in the North stopped trusting God and made alliances with foreign nations. In light of this, Judah in the South was promised peace. But, their fear of Israel in the North caused them to also turn from God, and rely on other nations for help.

The nation of Judah lost its affection for God. God wanted Judah to drink the waters of His peace. But, they were so caught up in their own fear and struggles, they stopped listening to Isaiah and the promises he was sharing from the Lord.

In God We Trust means to “hide into”. A refuge of perfect peace because He is the Lord. God wanted Judah to trust Him, and not turn from His commands, so he could bless them and allow them to prosper in peace. But, if they refuse to obey God, they will be cursed in everything they do.

The Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible. And, when the prophet Isaiah foretells the virgin birth of Christ, the Holy Spirit answers this prophecy in Matthew, chapter 1. The near and far of Bible prophecy that covers a vast amount of time, is still accurate to the moment in prophecy fulfillment.

God knows what will come to pass, and we need to remember that God is in control. God’s Word is eternal, and history is an eye witness to His Word. That’s why if the Bible wasn’t true, and all that it claims is false, it could easily be discarded. But, the past has proven God’s Word to be true. And, the longer we live, the more we see God’s hand in all that we do.

Our calling is from God. We’re to decrease as God increases. And, when considering all that we do, we’re to ask ourselves if our decisions are Biblically recognizable. But, when leadership is corrupt, and goes against God’s Word, God intervenes, especially when it has to do with Israel.

Justice is part of God’s divine nature. But, mercy is given to Judah, even though Ahaz was an evil king, with too much authority and power for such a young age. He refused to listen to his advisors, so God intervenes for the sake of the nation.

Today, Pastor Jack challenges us to look at our own lives to see if we believe God’s Word to be true. Judah’s King Ahaz didn’t believe God’s Word to be trustworthy because he had rebellion in his heart. And, even though, Isaiah tells Ahaz to ask for a sign from God, Ahaz goes against Isaiah’s promise that God made to him, and makes alliances with other nations.

Plans against Israel will never succeed. Even though King Ahaz, of Jerusalem was young and rebellious, God’s hand was on him. And, even though Ahaz didn’t do what was right in God’s eyes, Isaiah reassures him of God’s protection that no other nation in the world has been promised.
April 24, 2019
God was specific in His prophecy about saving Judah. But, when a nation rebels against God, as Judah often did, the people will still have to face the consequences. Even Isaiah was not immune from reaping what his country had sown.
