Don't Close the Door - B

October 19, 2018

In these first few verses, of Chapter 15, Peter talks about the past, telling those who are bound by the law about the grace of God. Paul then, reports on what God is doing in the present, and that love is what we are about now. Finally, James relates to the future, and how it’s hope that will keep you going.

Daze Of Deception
Jesus warned that deception would grow worse as we draw nearer to the end times, saying, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Distinguishing truth from error has become increasingly challenging—even in the church. We live in a time when falsehoods assault us from every direction. Packaged with just enough truth to make them appear trustworthy, these counterfeits have grown more and more difficult to detect and avoid. Living in the Daze of Deception explores the many ways error is masquerading as truth—and you’ll learn how you can discern the difference.

The progress of the Gospel is often hindered by people with closed minds, who are standing in front of open doors. Legalism has them bound in a religion that is performance based, while believers of God’s grace have a true relationship with Jesus Christ.

A Gospel Minister encourages and strengthens the church, and all those who are already saved. That’s why Paul and Barnabas returned to the churches that needed further support, and to further prepare them for adversity.

A Gospel Minister is all of us who are Christians, that have the heart of Jesus, and are filled with the Holy Spirit. A Gospel Minister is also one who speaks the truth of God, teaching, baptizing, and making disciples of all who follow Christ.

In this lesson, Pastor Jack encourages us not to be a child of a lesser god, but to be rooted and grounded in love. And, to know that God’s love surpasses knowledge, and the power through the Holy Spirit, will strengthen our inner being.

If we live our lives based on God’s Word, we’ll be at rest, confident, and knowing that both our present, and our future is filled with peace and hope. But, if we base our lives on myths, we’ll be forever guessing on an imagined power of self, or on lesser gods.

After Paul preached in their synagogue in Iconium, many who were there listening made a decision for Christ. But, this caused so much division and threats of violence, that Paul and Barnabas barely escaped the city, only stopping to heal a crippled man along the way.

When God causes division, He is dividing what is healthy and true, from what is false and harmful to the church. But, when people cause division, we are left bruised and broken. So, Paul and Barnabas stayed a long time in Iconium to disciple the new believers, who were being harassed by those who opposed the Gospel message.

God has the foreknowledge of who will accept and receive the Gospel. And, having this knowledge, God calls those who receive Him, into glory, by going to Heaven. But, those who reject the Gospel have a heart that cannot see, and eyes that cannot hear. And, they will spend their eternity separated from God.

The Gospel is like a double-edged sword. His salvation message can either heal you, or haunt you. It can heal you if you accept it. But, we alone have the responsibility to either choose the Gospel message, or lose it forever.
October 8, 2018
It is God’s nature to forgive and justify us, and that the Gospel is a free gift to those who are willing to receive it. Many will try to lead us down a path of legalism. But, following the rules and trying to be good will not get you into Heaven.
