Joel Chernoff: God Warned Him in 1996 That Israel Would Need to Be Ready — October 7 Proved It, and Something Bigger Is Coming
In 1996, Joel Chernoff received a prophetic word in his quiet time: over a million Jewish people would flee Eastern Europe and Russia to Israel in a time of great trouble. God was calling the messianic community, in partnership with Christians worldwide, to prepare.
What followed was 25 years of building in faith. Today, the Joseph Project International is the number one importer of humanitarian aid in the State of Israel, with over $180 million distributed across more than 104 containers from Christian partners around the world.
When October 7 happened, Joel and his wife Miriam were in Israel. They woke up to the war with $3 million in stored aid ready to deploy. His trucks were at the front within 24 hours.
In this conversation with Laurie Cardoza-Moore, Joel shares the full story — where the Joseph Project came from, what they're building next, and why he believes October 7 was only a rehearsal for something far larger. The prophetic word from 1996 hasn't been fully fulfilled yet. The preparation is still underway.

Guest (Male): The war started. We woke up in the war. Bombs were going off over the top of us. We had about $3 million worth of aid stored. Our warehouse and facilities were close to us and our trucks, within 24 hours, we were moving to the front and distributing aid to the IDF and displaced Israelis, victims of terror.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: Welcome to Proclaiming Justice, a podcast from PJTN that focuses the light of truth on vital issues in today's headlines that impact every American. I'm your host, Laurie Cardoza Moore, founder and president of Proclaiming Justice to the Nations. I'm here to educate, motivate, and activate you to action. I want to arm you with the truth and the facts you'll need to fight and preserve our constitutional republic and uphold the Judeo-Christian values our nation was founded upon.
Guest (Male): The Joseph Project has long been dedicated to preparing for emergencies, understanding the need for swift action. On the sudden onset of the emergency on October 7, our team was ready to respond, reaching Ashkelon and Sderot near Gaza by 9 o'clock the following morning, as soon as security permitted aid organizations to enter the area.
Immediately distributing our emergency stock of items carefully selected and saved for critical situations such as this, including thousands of toys, household goods, hygiene supplies, practical items for soldiers, and more. Since then, Joseph Project has continued to work closely with our network of partners, driving our trucks throughout the country, collecting locally donated goods and distributing them to evacuated families, reservists, and various organizations serving the people, schools, and vulnerable communities. In the last four weeks, an estimated 100 truckloads of supplies have been dispatched, reaching many thousands of people.
In addition to this, Joseph Project is actively engaged in importing more containers of essential items from our generous partners around the world, as well as overseeing the management of a distribution center in collaboration with our friends and partners at the Baptist Village. This is but a glimpse of the dedicated efforts of our team's daily work. We are asking you to support us financially, enabling us to replenish our supplies. Together we can rebuild and continue our vital work.
Guest (Male): This is Shmuel. I'm here at the Joseph Project. We're loading this truck. This truck is going with toys to the south, to children in bomb shelters, as well as this vehicle here. This truck and even our private cars are being used to take food to cook for soldiers and children down in the south.
Guest (Male): You've probably heard the news and are aware of the situation here in Israel. We at the Joseph Project want to be good stewards of what we have. I'm here at the warehouse. There's trucks behind me. They're going down to the south. There's a shipment of toys going down to bomb shelters. These are brand-new toys that we're purchasing and bringing down, as well as meeting the needs of the community. There are sheets, towels, and toothbrushes.
Guest (Female): Shalom, and thank you to the Joseph Project who brought us all these wonderful ingredients for cooking for many, many, many people.
Guest (Male): We have here food boxes from the Joseph Project, healthy food and good quality food.
Guest (Male): We've been so honored and privileged to be able to partner with Joseph Project along with other local organizations here in Israel. We're cooking hot meals that are going out as far down to Ashkelon where people are living in bomb shelters. In addition, we're partnering with Joseph Project to get grocery boxes out to local congregations. It is huge support that Joseph Project's been able to do, feeding body and soul to people that are in need.
Guest (Male): Thank you, Joseph Project, for everything that you give us. Thank you that you give us the opportunity to help those that have been evacuated. You are a great help to us and to everybody. Thank you.
Guest (Male): I want to thank you, Joseph Project and the Baptist Village, for providing these appliances: refrigerators, microwaves, and other appliances that you've provided that are going to make such a big difference in their lives.
Guest (Male): I want to thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your support. Yes, there is a need here in Israel, and thank you for filling that need. Blessings from Israel.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: Okay, well, ladies and gentlemen, we are back at NRB 2026. I have another great interview with Joel Chernoff. He is the founder and executive board chairman of the Joseph Project. Now Joel, I've heard of this organization, but I don't have a lot of background on it. I know you guys have been around for a long time and you've been involved in humanitarian aid. Is that correct?
Joel Chernoff: Yes. The Joseph Project International was founded off of a prophetic word that came to me in my quiet time in 1996. It was an overwhelming supernatural word. Through my tears as I was hearing from the Lord, I ran over to my desk and wrote it out.
Basically the vision was that in a short period of time, over a million more of our people were going to come out of Eastern Europe and Russia in a time of great trouble and Israel would not be prepared. God was saying to us, "Joel, I want you, the Messianic community, in partnership with your Christian brothers and sisters, like Joseph prepared for the famine in the scripture, to prepare a blessing on the soil of Israel with your Christian brothers and sisters for this event that is coming. Until that time, you are to build the infrastructure and meet urgencies along the way." In other words, practice this skill of humanitarian aid.
I knew nothing about it. I had no experience. I argued with the Lord a lot over it, but He won. Eventually, I started casting the vision for it. For three years, nothing happened, Laurie. Nothing. Then all of a sudden, in 1999, it began to move a little bit. By 2000, we had opened up our first facility in Israel in the Tel Aviv area, about 3,000 square feet, and we began bringing goods in from the nations.
We didn't know this was radically different. Most of the philanthropy in Israel is done with cash over the financial borders. This was bringing in 40-foot containers from Christian charities in the United States, Europe, China, the Far East, etc. Since 2000, we had a lot of obstacles to overcome, but the Lord helped us supernaturally in some cases get through all of the obstacles.
Today, 25 years later, the Joseph Project International is the number one importer of humanitarian aid in the state of Israel with over $180 million in over 1,000 40-foot containers. We work with over 120 Israeli corporations who have given us now tens of millions of dollars in excess inventory and humanitarian aid, and they get a tax write-off from us because this is a high-level charity in Israel. We work with the government extensively also.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: Fantastic. So tell our audience a little bit about the work that you have. You've gathered in all of these goods, this humanitarian aid from around the world and in Israel. Have you had to tap into that storehouse to provide for Israel, or are you thinking this is going to be for another time?
Joel Chernoff: We have distributed $180 million worth of aid. We have stored up an interesting story. At the beginning of 2025, Laurie, I was in my quiet time. I was talking to the Lord, reading the scripture. Then I felt an impression from the Lord, not a voice, but an impression. In 2025, something big was going to happen in Israel, trouble.
God was saying don't just give out everything, store some goods also. I took that word to my board and I said, "What do you guys think? Do you resonate with this or not?" They said, "No, we do resonate with it. Let's start putting aside goods." So we began to do so.
October the 6th, we were in Israel. Miriam, my wife who is sitting over there, and I were in Israel for an international Messianic conference. We had just flown in and had a nice Shabbat dinner. Bam, the war started. We woke up in the war. Bombs were going off over the top of us.
We had about $3 million worth of aid stored and our warehouse and facilities were close to us. Within 24 hours, our trucks were moving to the front and distributing aid to the IDF and displaced Israelis, victims of terror. So the prophetic part of it, which is to store up for a million, hasn't even really started yet in terms of storing up.
Interesting thing though is that in the last year, we are probably on our way to building a new facility. The money's been pledged to build a very large facility. Our current facility is 16,000 square feet and it's three stories tall. It's a beautiful, nice facility, but we're going to build as the Lord leads and He's already brought in most of the funding for a 150,000 square foot building. It will be three stories, a beautiful building with office and warehouse space.
That's where the storing will start. 150,000 is a lot of square footage. Three stories high, so we can do a lot. We can store up $100 million or $200 million in goods.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: You said this was like a prophetic unction from the Lord. Do you think that God was preparing you for this October 7th surprise, or do you think that there's something even greater coming?
Joel Chernoff: Oh, it's greater, much, much greater. The prophetic word as I shared is that over a million people will suddenly come as refugees to Israel, in a time of great trouble. It doesn't take a genius to see antisemitism is rising and how that could happen in Eastern Europe, in the United States, and in Europe.
The prophetic part is that He's instructing us, Jew and Gentile together, to prepare for this event. That is the prophetic part. So yeah, we haven't started doing that yet. We have been distributing goods as fast as we get them in. October the 7th was kind of a dry run for it. It was practice for the big thing coming.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: Has He given you any more recent prophetic word about what's going to happen? I mean, here we are sitting with Iran. We're all wondering. The alerts are going out in Israel on the Home Front Command and we're all wondering what's going to be the next step. Is Iran going to pull out, or do you think this is going to unleash in a full-scale war?
Joel Chernoff: Well, I don't know to what magnitude the war will go. But obviously, President Trump has assembled heavy artillery. Israel has forces on the ground in Iran now, undercover, but they're there and they've identified targets.
There's no doubt that the mullahs are determined to retain power and they want to strike back against Israel and the United States. They're threatening the United States and they're threatening Israel. I believe them, and so does Israel and so does President Trump. He's trying to avoid the war and use leverage to force them to step down and get out of the country.
So far he's unsuccessful because they are determined. I think it's highly likely Israel's not going to wait around much more because they're a small country and they cannot afford a first strike of any sort. They need to move. I think that they will move and the United States and President Trump will also move and it'll be over very, very quickly. But it's very likely that they're going to strike.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: Your work with the Joseph Project is all specific to Israel. How can our audience find out where to locate you, how to partner, and how to support what you're doing?
Joel Chernoff: We pray they do because this is the time for Christians to stand with our people not only in Israel but here in the United States. When those protests come, there are 30 to 40 million Christian Zionists here. Get your buddies out in the street and say, "Hey, not on our watch. You're not going to pull these stunts running in and burning down synagogues like they did. It's not going to happen."
That's a great witness and testimony to our people that Christian guys will stand up and say we're going to push back. That's here in the United States. But they can get in touch with us and support us in Israel. We know there's trouble coming. There's going to be damage and there's going to be war there.
Get in touch with us at josephproject.org. That is josephproject.org or josephprojectinternational.org. Either of those will get you right to our site and you can partner with us in many different ways. Now is the time to act.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: Absolutely. I love what you're doing. You're being proactive and responding to God's calling. Right now, He's preparing. Fill the silos and this is the way to do it.
Joel Chernoff: Fill it up. Let's go. God bless you, Laurie. Thank you for taking the time to talk with us. God bless you and God bless your audience.
Laurie Cardoza Moore: Amen. Thank you. Thank you again for joining me on this edition of Proclaiming Justice. Please share this podcast with your family and friends.
