Twin Truths
We are both created by God and sustained by God. This truth both humbles and dignifies us.
Colin Smith: The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. That's Genesis 2:7. God formed a body, a skeletal frame that lay lifeless on the ground. Then God breathed his own breath into the corpse. He gave the kiss of life and the corpse became a living being.
God is always doing what he did on that day. God gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. Right now, God is sustaining your life one breath at a time.
If you can grasp these twin truths, that you are made from the dust and that God gives you life, you'll discover both great dignity and, at the same time, great humility.
