Carried Along by the Spirit
The authors of Scripture did not make things up as they went. Rather, they were “carried along by the Spirit” to write the Bible. That fact differentiates the Scriptures from every other book.
Guest (Male): Open the Bible with Colin Smith.
Colin Smith: What was it like for a prophet to receive the word of God? Well, the apostle Peter says no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
When Paul was taken by ship as a prisoner to Rome, Luke records that a tempestuous wind struck down from the land and we were all driven along. Now, that word “driven along” is the same word that Peter used for the prophets being carried along by the Holy Spirit.
The direction of the boat was controlled by the wind; the message of the prophets was controlled by the spirit. When you open the Bible, you are reading the word of God and you can trust all that God says.
Guest (Male): Is there someone in your life who needs to know the God of the Bible and might be open to take a journey through the Bible with you? Invite them to openthebible.org.
