Anger Is Not in God’s Nature
There are many attributes of God which are revealed to us in the Bible. The Bible says “God is love” but it does not say “God is anger.” Anger does not come naturally to Him. It must be provoked.
Guest (Male): Open the Bible with Colin Smith.
Colin Smith: God is immensely patient. For 200 years he restrained judgment and sent the prophets to call his people back to godliness and righteousness. But they wouldn't listen. They did wicked things provoking the Lord to anger.
Now, that word provoking reminds us that anger is not in God’s nature. See, the ancient gods were angry by nature, always smoldering and constantly needing to be appeased. But the God of the Bible is not like that. The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
It’s not God’s nature to be angry, but he can be provoked to anger, and for this we should be thankful. How could we worship a God who was indifferent toward evil?
