A Gift We Do Not Earn
The righteousness of Christ is credited to our account by faith alone. We cannot earn it, because it was earned by Jesus himself, and is given to us freely.
Guest (Male): Open the Bible with Colin Smith.
Colin Smith: Some time ago, I decided to close a credit card account that I'd used over several years in Britain. When I called, the representative seemed quite surprised. "Do you realize that you have 2,000 points on this card?" she asked. "Can I give them to someone else?" I asked. "Oh yes," she said, "anyone else who has the same card." So, I gave them to my father, and he enjoyed the benefit of 2,000 points that he had never earned.
When you come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, God credits His righteousness to you. You are in Christ Jesus, who became to us righteousness and sanctification and redemption. God justifies you, not because of your performance in the Christian life, but because, by faith, the righteousness of Christ becomes yours.
Guest (Male): Are you open to discovering what the Bible says about God? Well then, come to openthebible.org.
