Establish What Is True

September 3, 2026
00:00

God has given us tools to win the war against sin and the devil. God uses the Bible as a mirror and counselors as a source of wisdom to help you find the truth.

Guest (Male): Open the Bible with Colin Smith.

Colin Smith: When you find yourself in a conflict, your starting point must always be to establish what's true. God will bring the truth to your attention through the Scriptures, so use the Bible as a mirror. Learn to listen to close friends and wise counselors who will speak the truth into your life.

And if you want to help another person who's in a conflict, this is where you must begin. What is the truth of this situation? What's the reality here? See, what you can contribute may often be something that you can see which the other person has not yet been able to perceive. Wise counsel begins with a proper understanding of the truth. And that's why James says that we must be quick to listen and slow to speak.

Guest (Male): Is there someone in your life who needs to know the God of the Bible and might be open to take a journey through the Bible with you? Invite them to openthebible.org.

Lincoln’s Daily Devotional

Books that draw out the commands, blessings, and promises of Scripture are wonderful gifts. Last year a friend gave me an early edition of Lincoln’s Daily Devotional. I was intrigued to discover that Abraham Lincoln used a daily devotional, and I have found what he used to be wonderfully helpful. Published in 1852, Lincoln’s devotional gives a verse of Scripture (from the King James Version) for each day of the year. These verses are organized around monthly themes, including the privileges, duties, joys, sorrows, temptations, and final blessedness of a believer. -Pastor Colin
