Breaking Soul Ties

June 15, 2008

But outside of marriage, forming these interpersonal ties can warp our ability to connect deeply with a lifetime mate. Today: why we must break these ties in order to be healed in our souls.

Falling into moral sin is easy, since all of us are driven by our desires, and then rationalize our behavior with our minds. We tell ourselves lies....and then we often begin to live a lie to cover up what we've done. The result is conflict: conflict within ourselves, and conflict that can ruin the lives of others as well as our own.

Any of us are capable of committing sexual sin. We are designed with desires that make this kind of sin easy to fall into. And when we do get mired in these sins, our souls take the brunt of the damage as in our shame we are estranged from others, and most importantly, estranged from God.

Many families have prodigal sons or daughters who have left home in rebellion against their parents' values. The heartache is acute as moms and dads wonder where their children are, and, if they are safe. There was one prodigal son who came home in disgrace only to find himself treated like royalty. The gospel of Luke records the story. Today: a message of hope for all whose kids are in the far country...your son or daughter might one day come home to you as well. Are you ready?

A broken world is made up of broken families...families with broken marriages, and families with sons and daughters who have left home for a far country where they can do what they like and leave behind any thought of God. These "prodigals" desperately need to come home, but sadly, not all do.

The songwriter wrote, "I can't live in a world without love." How true that is. Love is something no one can live without...feeling that someone, somewhere, cares for us. Love comes in several flavors, and today we will see the contrast between human and divine love, and how as believers, we can learn to share the love of God with those around us.

"Do I really matter?" Many people feel as if their lives are of no importance, like they cannot make any real difference in a world gone topsy-turvy. Today, you will hear why a believer in Christ should be the last person to feel insignificant. Stay with us as we explore another of the gifts you cannot live without.

When it comes right down to it, what really satisfies people is not a new car, a new home theater system or even a new computer. What gives us fulfillment is being part of something bigger than ourselves. Getting connected in this way is another of the gifts we cannot live without, as explained by Dr. Lutzer.

Most of us are grateful when we receive gifts...and we should be. While many gifts we get are enjoyable, most are not critical to our lives. But, did you know that there are at least four gifts we cannot live without...gifts that forge our character, outlook and self-image? Today we begin a series on those four gifts, as outlined by Dr. Lutzer.

Here is something to ponder: is the evangelical boat taking on water? Some see the world seeping into the church at such a rate that soon there will be little visible difference. How can Christians impact a culture in which they are no longer different? These are the questions Dr. Lutzer poses, and answers, on today's broadcast.

There are many voices that oppose the message of the gospel, and they are getting louder all the time. Many authors are writing books promising that you can simply think your way to happiness, prosperity and health, and that looking to God for your supply is, at best, old-fashioned. One such book caught the eye of Dr. Lutzer, and on today's program, you will hear its message soundly debunked.
